red930 Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 Well first off: Really man - it's not that hard. And more pertinently I doubt that AMD is going away anytime soon. For the 939 boards disappearing: 1. AMD probably needed more facilities making AM2 chips 2. nVidia made the most popular chipsets. Once AMD bought Ati nVidia may have decided to pull that chipset. Yes, I realize they still make some for AM2, but none are particularly great. 3. Actual board manufacturers probably figure that C2D is more appealing to a lot of their customers (especially now), so they'll do what it takes to make money as well. 3stars Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 Intel go up AMD go down AMD go up Intel go down Intel go up AMD go down .................... and the story goes on and on and on i can't see how a billion dollar company is going to go belly up in a matter of 6-12 months yes there losing the war to Intel at the moment but it wont be long before the little boffins in white coats come up with somthing to counter Intel and then we'll all be talking about the demise of intel as the pendulim swings the other way. I build systems for my freinds and others some are Intel some are AMD depending on what people want and can afford. theres no reason that AMD is going down just having a hard time thats all oh and a foot note the real reason the AM2 is in full swing is that ddr is noe on the production back burner all the chip makers are concentrating on ddr2 and thats where the real chip war is at the moment Share this post Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Unfortunately AMD can't blame Intel for this one and then sue them. I'm not a fanboy of either company, competition drives the market and keeps us in good products at fair prices. AMD now owns ATI and you can see how the products they have stack up to the competition. You really have to have something to offer to your customers before you can even attempt to make a profit and have a successful business. It won't cause AMD to fold, they will just be in second place for awhile. Too bad they will behind in quite a few different markets now. Second, 3Stars hit it on the nose. AMD was all over Intel when they released Athlon64. It was quite a while before Intel got back on track. And as you look back, it has see-sawed this way for years. Stupid article really. No point in whining about losing socket 939, all those responses about how mad they were because they just bought a 939 system......well, duh!!! Do some research and get with the program, had they, they would not have dived into a 939 system, it's been obvious for months it is being phased out. That's like building a new system off of socket 754 or 478 right now. Sorry, but things move on, deal with it. Perhaps they would be happy if we were still using socket 370 and sdram.
