Vassili Zaitsev Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Hi all How do I install WinXP on SATA drive without floppy? In two times i had to seek for a floppy, and now for a floppy cable, cause i DONT use the floppy drive, and i just can't get it, how can you NEED the floppy drive to install the SATA driver then windows? Im talking you at Linux Ubuntu 5.1... But well, that's the question, is there ANY way to install WinXP SP2 with my SATA drive and my Sil3114 controller WITHOUT a floppy drive? Thanks, again
dr_bowtie Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Yep sure is...you need to slipstream the driver into the XP install and re-burn a new slipstream cd.... other than that..you're going to need a floppy...
Snowpro Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 I used nLite to make my Slipstream CD http://www.nliteos.com/guides.html
RyderOCZ Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 If you are just using a sata drive and not raid.....do you need the drivers? I think if you use them in IDE mode, most all OS's will recognize them without drivers. Been wrong before and will be wrong again though
Praz Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 I was just thinking the same thing. I have never needed a driver for a non-RAID SATA drive with XP.
centy Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 I think if you don't have SP2 slipstreamed you need to install the SATA drivers manually before you can use the drive.
OsamaBinAthlon+ Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 I have installed a SP1 XP on a single sata drive no floppy was required
Col.Howard Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Ya'll are correct...you do NOT need the drivers if you are running non-Raided or single SATA drives. The diskette says Sata Raid Driver Disk.
centy Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 I can remember a time when I did have to install SATA drivers before my drive would work though. I'm not sure at which point I didn't have to any more but I think it was SP2.
Col.Howard Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 I've got XP, and never had to install drivers for a single drive...and that was back in the nf2 days.
General Septem Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 I concur, you do not need drivers for the SATA bus unless you are running a POS Dell. I know this because I've tried it on my father's Dell and on my LP; his needed a driver and mine didn't. But if you're running RAID, you'll have to.
