UncleDavid218 Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 They feature 100% aluminum Japanese made capacitors (like the ones you see on video cards and around the CPU socket) And, I think an enlarged e-penis probably has something to do with it also Otherwise... it's the same thing as the Expert
arklab Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 And, I think an enlarged e-penis probably has something to do with it also Otherwise... it's the same thing as the Expert Hey, I do NOT ... wait I mean ... awww nuts! ... no I mean - Oh never mind! Actually, I'm quite glad I got one. What it WILL do: 1) Much more tolerant of all sorts of ram that other DFI boards choke on. 2) Should last a long time due to great caps and faster timmings. 3) Bragging Rights (or proof you are the village idiot - take your pick). What it WON'T do: 1) Get fantastic higher overclocks than an Expert or even an Ultra-D (no 3.5GHz from an Opty 165 - darn!) 2) Keep money in your pocket for other good stuff (video cards?) 3) Make you a good speller and writer. Are you considering getting one?

arklab Posted August 20, 2006 Posted August 20, 2006 Umm you got any proof for points 1. and 2.? 1) Much more tolerant of all sorts of ram that other DFI boards choke on. Just as an experiment, I was able to run the board with two sets of VERY mixed pairs of DIMMs. They were A) a pair (2 each) of 1Gb of OCZ Gold AND B) a pair (2 each) of 256Mb Kingmax TinyBGA DDR-500 DIMMs - for a total of four wierdly mixed DIMMs at the same time. Somewhere I have the CPU-Z screen shot, but lord knows where. For those who don't know what TinyBGA is, search the archives here. I DO know that my Expert board would not even boot with even just ONE TinyBGA DIMM in any slot - much less two. I did the above as a "what the heck - why not try it?" kind of thing, never with the idea of it being in anyway a useful setup for every day use, much less overclocking! 2) Should last a long time due to great caps and faster timmings. For the "timings" I refer to it's ability to transmit the pusles better, not the BIOS settings. Go to DFI's website and read Oscar's explaination in the press release for details. As far as lasting longer, better quality components skillfully assembled will always last longer. Sorry I was so late getting back on this. jazzpicker Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 what makes them so sought after WHen you push the power button, the venus boots up and runs without issues. It is a dependable trouble free mobo. It was $60 something dollars more than an expert and I hope DFI will consider making another run of these in the future. It's one of the better computer items that I've ever owned and the only piece of computer equipiment that has increased in value since purchase. WIsh I'd bought 10. Ps, after writing these glowing words the mobo will probably explode within 24 hours....frickin computers....
