Wolfman2020 Posted May 18, 2006 Posted May 18, 2006 has anyone tried changing the p2p Pre-fetch DW it's default is set to 4x16dw I changed mine to 16x16dw and saw a nice increase in stability and performance with my harddrives on Uli controller don't have them in raid YET just getting the rig stable first which is almost there
Krazeyivan Posted May 18, 2006 Posted May 18, 2006 Well I am not running RAID of any sort and I get the wonderful - pause every hour or so. It does not crash windows but for about 10 secs locks then - unfreezes - Running on the ULI controller in slots 1 and 2. Event Viewer shows M52881 - timeout message and also LOTS of Disk error Event ID - 51 - error detected during paging operation. These events seemed to be bunched together - all when I am using my HDD's a lot.

JohnMike Posted May 18, 2006 Posted May 18, 2006 I have used 90% of the bios settings provided by JohnMike and, so far - 2.5 hours or heavy raptor use, no error. What are the 10% that you didn't changed?! Can you post here your settings like i did?!

simonmaltby Posted May 18, 2006 Posted May 18, 2006 What are the 10% that you didn't changed?! Can you post here your settings like i did?! Will do later... the only things i did not change in the end were: TREF, Multi, FSB and Vcore The changes DID not work I have one test that lasted slightly over the normal 2 hours, today its back to the normal cycle.... so i'm afraid the bios changes had no effect for me. Supreme_Evil Posted May 18, 2006 Posted May 18, 2006 On a sidenote, I was using this combo on the Asus A8R32-MVP without the issue, so how can TLER be blaimed when the chipset and the controller are the same on both boards? This would suggest that it can be fixed. Dear All: To answer raju's question, here we have some very interesting information to share. A test with ASUS A8R32-MVP Deluxe Test Equipments : • Model: ASUS A8R32-MVP Deluxe BIOS:2006/01/20 • CPU : AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Venice • Memory : Geil one PC4800 512MB *2 Dual Channel • Graphics Card : ATI RADEON X850XT *2 CrossFire Enabled • HDD : Western Digital WD360GD SATA 36GB *2 RAID0 Edition • OS : Windows XP SP2 Professional Ver.5.1.2600. 2180 • CPU Cooler : Thermaltake Fan cooler We will not jump into any conclusion here, but we guess the result of this test will expalin something to raju and the rest of you guys here. sudrin Posted May 18, 2006 Posted May 18, 2006 Dear All: • HDD : Western Digital WD360GD SATA 36GB *2 RAID0 Edition We will not jump into any conclusion here, but we guess the result of this test will expalin something to raju and the rest of you guys here. Except that just makes it LESS clear, since that drive HAS TLER. So now its something with the controller then?

Krazeyivan Posted May 18, 2006 Posted May 18, 2006 By the way can anyone else confirm that the ULI controller will not allow ACHI mode with these samsung HDD's?? Here is a quote from a review from CustomPC regards the same ULI controller on the ASUS A8R32-MVP mobo The culprit was perhaps the M1575 Southbridge, which ran our S-ATA II Samsung test drive in 'Emulated PATA mode'. Attempting to switch to 'ACHI' mode caused all manner of problems, including corrupted Windows installations. I am getting the EXACT same thing! Well if you go for a later bios as this image shows the errors are gone. My test setup is.... • Model: ASUS A8R32-MVP Deluxe BIOS:2006/03/07 • CPU : AMD Athlon 64 3500 Newcastle • Memory : Corsair value 512MB *2 Dual Channel • Graphics Card : 2 x X1300 256 CrossFire Enabled • HDD : Western Digital WD360GD SATA 36GB *2 RAID0 WD036GD This shows me that Asus had the issue and sorted it.
