GutBuster Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 Is there any performance differances between the orange and yellow memory slots? Both my memory sticks (in the sig) are in the orange slots becuase they will not boot in the yellow slots. I s there anyway to get them to boot in the yellow slots if that is better? I couldn't get to the windows splash with them in there, but they boot up just fine in the orange slots.

I'm not going to change them.... but I would like to know the differance. Does the yellow slots offer better performance? What's the diff? Guest squidge Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 Same here, doesn't even start loading windows in the yellow slots, works fine in the orange
mike63304 Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 Same with where i am at. i ran memtest with my RAM in yellow, goes pretty quick, runs smooth, no problems. then i swapped over to orange, and it went a lot slower. i'm assuming it's going to be different per manufacturer of RAM. And maybe even board. mike
Guest Pollushon Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 Each coloured set is Dual Channel. Orange is Channel 1 and Yellow is Channel 2. DFI state in their manuals the first two sticks go in the orange slots for Dual Channel performance.
DATGUY Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 yeah, im getting my crap kinda stable, and its in the orange slots atm, but i got corsair twinx everyone else seems to have geil or OCz... hmmmmmmm
EdLSmith Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 The Difference is the color. I use whichever is easiest to slip the mem n at the time. My BIOS accepts that. You might have to make a adjustment to use yellow.
DrMekon Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 You might have to make a adjustment to use yellow So the difference is not just the colour then... lol... my pc wouldnt even install windows with ram in yellow, so there must be a physical difference with the slots somehow... You might have to make a adjustment to use yellow. I don't agree. There is clearly something different between the slots, even if I don't know why. The same phenomenon occured on my old socket A Lanparty NFII Ultra B. When I used slot 1 and 2 I could only get about 230 FSB. But in slots 1 and 3 I could reach 260 FSB. On my new NF4 Ultra-D the orange slots overclocks much better than the yellow.
mike63304 Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 well, i looked over the manual again. DFI recommends using the Orange slots (DIMM's 2 and 4). It also states that if you are going to use the yellow slots, you need to put it at 2T, because its more stable. but orange slots, are 1T. i think thats all on page 32... I was using the online manual. mike
