Aliencam Posted August 9, 2003 Posted August 9, 2003 I am buying a new computer... or i should say, my dad is buying a computer for me and my borhters. we've been looking around and i see AMD processors running at 2.1 when the same price pentium 4 is at 2.8 or 3.0 Ghz... I know that AMD chips are suposed to run smoother, but what are the other advantages? im suposed to pick today... mabye i shouldnt have waited so long.. oops
O(V)eGA_l2el) Posted August 10, 2003 Posted August 10, 2003 Yes for example theoritically AMD AthlonXP 2400+ out performs a Pentium4 running at 2.4 Ghz I would choose the system with the AMD based processor
bishop245 Posted August 10, 2003 Posted August 10, 2003 i agree go with the AMD systems
syneze Posted August 10, 2003 Posted August 10, 2003 It all really depends on what you're going to use it for. Most in this forum are viciously biased towards AMD, so don't expect to get many Intel votes.
Propane Posted August 10, 2003 Posted August 10, 2003 DONT GO INTEL - amd is the best but then again you wont be doing much OCing so it really dosent matter
Aliencam Posted August 10, 2003 Posted August 10, 2003 (edited) I was planning on going AMD anyway, I just wanted to know why they are marked so slow... I wasnt asking for a vote... and what exactaly does kevin mean? Edited August 10, 2003 by Aliencam
exeter_acres Posted August 10, 2003 Posted August 10, 2003 on an AMD 2400+ the clock speed is 2Ghz (ok..it is something like 1998mhz or 1997mhz...but, whatever!) Â but for marketing it is called a 2400+ because in benchmark testing the AMD CPU performs somewhat the same as an INTEL P4 2.4Ghz.. Â even though the AMD actually has a "slower" clock speed.... Â there is a much more detailed description somewhere, I just can't put my hands on it..... Â Does that answer the question?
Aliencam Posted August 10, 2003 Posted August 10, 2003 yep thanks   hmmmm... the exact same model HP is allmost 100$ cheaper at Sam's club than it is at costco... without a sale or rebate or anything
Ziggy54354 Posted August 10, 2003 Posted August 10, 2003 FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DONT GET AN HP! i had one and the fan inside it died on me in 2 years, first it started making this loud cracking sound because the motor was messed up and then it just stopped on me. I had to get a 8 inch fan to put by my open case to keep my system running. I'm never buying a premanufactured computer again. O(V)eGA_l2el) Posted August 10, 2003 Posted August 10, 2003 If you want to go out for convienence and buy a comp, go for a Alienware or Voodoo system (thought they can be very expensive) or maybe a Dell?
