^ Come again, old chap?
-
^ Is curious why he's using such outdated hardware.
-
^ Fails to know my new system is fully functional.

This is Intel's throttling thing working, it increases the multiplier as needed. Nothing is wrong with it.
Helps to save energy and heat.

Just got all of the bits in tonight, working very well. Unfortunately, it always shorts out on the case somewhere. For now, it just runs out-of-case until I buy a new case.. lovely. I spent all evening trying to get it to run in-case, but no dice. Time for a new one, it seems.
Haven't had a chance to overclock it yet. Still working out all the bugs in Vista x64. Did manage to get the 4870 folding, though.

Good to hear.
I'm still clinging to 939 for as long as I can. I'll probably go Nehalem or whatever AMD's cooking up (depends on what's better). I had a 535W enermax running great for about 4 years, but they do age...and I've retired mine.
I've held on to S939 for a while, as well. Started with the 3500+ and now the X2. Now with the degradation of this board, it's silly to hold on longer. And I'm not going near AM2, as the CPUs aren't much of an upgrade to the X2. I do like Enermax PSUs, they're one of the first companies I go to because they make an extremely solid product.

My main reason for the E8500 was just budget, I didn't want to cheap out on the motherboard. The benefits of the P5Q-D outweighed a quad for me.
PSU should be fine, mostly the rather wimpy power design of the motherboard is to blame. I can always get a Corsair later on, if needed. The Liberty is a war horse, so far.

^ Will soon hate me for ordering one, as well..

Finally pulled the trigger on the C2D tonight. I researched for a few weeks and decided on this:
E8500
ASUS P5Q-D
G.Skill 2x2gb PC8500 PK
HD4870
Decided on a 500gb Seagate 7200.11 for the OS and general stuff.
Going with Vista X64 as the OS. My current Enermax Liberty 500w is sufficient for the new build. Luckily, I already have the CPU cooler, soundcard and case sorted.
Really excited to get all this stuff in and set it up. Basically sick of the X2 now, and this ATI chipset which refuses to play nicely with it, after two years. It doesn't even try to overclock anymore, even the smallest amount. I'm losing over 200PPD from F@H due to having to lower it back to stock speed.
Everything has already been purchased, you can still critique my decisions and talk about the build.

^ Is completely unaware I pulled the trigger on a load of upgrades.

^ Feels jealous of my rubbish F@H score.

^ May not be aware of the simple joy of an Enermax PSU.
-
^ Could buy a copy of Vista quite soon..

It's just marketing, a gimmick to get you spending more on some fancy label.
-
You'll be okay with that PSU. Just checked and the spec is 550w for CF on those.

Sorry, it was a bit of random confusion. The problem I've concluded is Firefox, the system is otherwise fine. I just need to find out what's causing Firefox to corrupt the display. Version of Firefox is 2.0.14, display driver is a generic one from Windows Update based on 8.2 Catalyst. Screen corruption happens after using Firefox for 5-10 minutes, after which the laptop is shut off manually.
Hardware all checks out fine. I'll try and snag a picture of the corruption next time it happens.

Having some problems with an Acer 3050 laptop, the screen goes corrupt after using Firefox for a few minutes. I've tried creating a new profile and removing extensions, neither of those worked. I've already checked the CPU and RAM for stability, both of which checked out fine. The laptop has integrated graphics, which seemed okay after testing. The only thing I haven't tested extensively is the HDD, thinking it couldn't be the source of the problem, it made it through formatting and reinstalling Windows with no problem at all.
I'm lead to think the problem is entirely software, but I can't work out exactly what software is causing it. Could this be a specific problem with the integrated graphics (or the driver) and Mozilla?
Anyone who had this problem, please chime in.
Hardware details:
AMD Sempron 3400+
ATI Xpress 1100m
512mb DDR2 533
Hitachi 40gb HDD
Windows XP MCE 2005 SP3

Cutting those mesh grilles out will get rid of "whoosh" sound, caused by turbulence. I remember doing this a couple of years ago on the TT Tsunami, it made a world of difference, the case was so much quieter afterwards.
Team that up with some silencing pads, you'll eliminate most of the noise caused by fans. Petra's has the pads, as well. http://www.petrastechshop.com/sovida.html
