nickk47 Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 I always just buy a psu that is in the middle zone of good enough and overkill. Just because I want the peace of mind for when my system is older, to take account for capacitor aging, as well other unexpected upgrades or something. ir_cow Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Welcome to OCC! though you may want to start a new thread about your PSU question. I;m also not following the question you are asking .
AkakmanH Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 I have always found - many will disagree - that a higher rated PSU will run cooler. IE 850W supplying power for a 650W need. With no overloads - much less power drain - PSU runs cooler.
wevsspot Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Sometimes cooler = quieter too depending on the unit And I agree with you, I'd much rather overkill and have my power supply only expecting to deliver 50-60% or it's rated capacity instead of 80-90% of it's rated capacity. Plus there is the whole "future" proofing argument. Honestly if you pick the right power supply now and get a great unit, it really can follow you through 2 or 3 new builds moving forward.
