Ghost2520 Posted April 16, 2003 Posted April 16, 2003 Does anyone use fiber opics yet? Cause I get fiber optics cable pretty cheap... when do you think they will start using fiber optics high speed internet? The only place I have seen actually using fiber optics is some proffesional video editing studios.
Overclocker16 Posted April 16, 2003 Posted April 16, 2003 That's wierd...they seem to have fiber optics a lot around here. OC-3 and up I am pretty sure are fiber optics. Maybe T-3, not sure on that one.
General912 Posted April 16, 2003 Posted April 16, 2003 what ive heard is that they got something better than fiber optics now which is gunna make it obsolete.
Ghost2520 Posted April 16, 2003 Posted April 16, 2003 I don't think so, fiber optics can transmit ten miles before losing data, and cat5e can go only 295 feet.(or 195 can't remember off the top of my head)
justinal Posted April 16, 2003 Posted April 16, 2003 fiber optics is the best ive heard of
DeMoN Posted April 16, 2003 Posted April 16, 2003 in the IT department that i work in, fiber is our backbone. we also use it to allow remote offices to get to our backbone with having to get a frame relay
General912 Posted April 16, 2003 Posted April 16, 2003 well i cant think of what they call this but it is a hell lot better than fiber it can transmit longer than that. Its still in the devolpment stages argh i cant think what there calling it ill have to ask the guy who told me about it. Joba Fel-Naago Posted April 30, 2003 Posted April 30, 2003 (edited) something BETTER than fiberoptic for transmitting data? dang. thatd be cool :-) Edited April 30, 2003 by Joba Fel-Naago
cptkook Posted April 30, 2003 Posted April 30, 2003 I work in the fiber optic components industry, and I haven't heard of anything supposedly better. It would be interesting to see it, since we are talking about something faster than the speed of light....
JeepGC96ZJ Posted May 22, 2003 Posted May 22, 2003 Yes he is correct.. There is a new cable out there that will be faster than Fiber. I heard this some where but cant remember where too. LOL Jeep
syneze Posted May 30, 2003 Posted May 30, 2003 Don't know if any of you are acquainted with Mr. Einstein, but he stated in his theory of relativity that nothing can surpass the speed of light.
Overclocker16 Posted May 30, 2003 Posted May 30, 2003 Exactly, it's a theory. No one knows. And probably never will know.
