OptikaliLLusion Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 Okay, so my friend sent me an episode of South Park. He said he got it from some Torrent site, and it was encoded in XviD. Fair enough. I download the XviD binary package, install, double click the file, and WMP says it is in an unrecognized format. Could this have to do with also having DivX installed? If I uninstall DivX, will I still be able to play my DivX movies?
RadioActivated Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 Download the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack. Codecs..
OptikaliLLusion Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 Should I uninstall DivX and XviD first? Or will they not mess with each other?
Kash Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 No, DivX and Xvid are separate codecs. I have both installed on my system and it results in no conflicts when playing videos. I use the DivX player when Windows Media Player refuses to play anything and that usually takes care of it. There are rare occasions where I don't have any codec installed that will do the job, but like I said, those are rare.
Bleeble Posted June 11, 2005 Posted June 11, 2005 Download the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack. Codecs.. 490149[/snapback] That's what I use and I have been able to play everything I've found so far. I suggest you use Media Player Classic as the player (included with full and I think the standard install). Don't use that link though, this has the latest version (2.48) http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm
OptikaliLLusion Posted June 19, 2005 Posted June 19, 2005 Still doesn't work, MP Classic says "Cannot render file"

Kamikaze_Badger Posted June 19, 2005 Posted June 19, 2005 No, use DivX to run it after installing the codecs. Last Dinosaur 2 is encoded with xvid and it plays in DivX.

markiemrboo Posted June 19, 2005 Posted June 19, 2005 I had bad luck with 'codec packs' in the past. They all just tended to make a giant mess of things. For me, it's as simple as installing the DivX codec, installing the XviD codec, and finally installing ffdshow. I've never had a problem with any XviD or DivX stuff this way before, ever. You appear to already have XviD so... here's a link to ffdshow. http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_so...ers/ffdshow.cfm
MasterRex862 Posted June 19, 2005 Posted June 19, 2005 I just realized something... Divx = Xvid backwards.... WTF?? I have had horrible luck with codecs in the past as well. Have you ever thought that your video mught be corrupted?
