I don't like to spoil the fun but I think I should at least bring something to your attention. I did some reasearch on the domain freeipods.com and here is what I came up with:

[admin@server httpd]$ host freeipods.com

freeipods.com has address 24.75.130.234

[admin@server httpd]$ whois -h whois.arin.net 24.75.130.234

[whois.arin.net]

The IP of freeIPods.com is 24.75.130.234 which is owned by Adelphia.net which is a cable company. Just from this information alone, I would be skeptical of this site. Looks like someone is hosting the site from their home computer on their cable modem.

Here is the whois information for the domain:

Domain servers in listed order:

DNS7.REGISTER.COM 216.21.234.74

DNS8.REGISTER.COM 216.21.226.74

Their contact emails are all "[email protected]" notice the word "Marketing" which is a nice name for a spammer, "usually". If you noticed on the IP lookup that the Adelphia office which owns his IP address is located in the state of PA but his contact information on his domain whois says he lives in DC. This doesn't mean his address is false because most of the time the office that is in the IP whois will not always be in your state.

While this guy still may be legit, you all should not get your hopes up unless you know someone that has actually got an ipod for free from them.

Thanks a bunch for that info LP! I was kinda skepitcal at first, but then i saw some people's order confirmation and such... I don't think this is a scam, but it is always good to keep an eye on things.

Well I do see how it can work:

You: Signup. You must signup for a free (or almost free) offer.

FreeIpods.com: Will get $50 - $75 for you signing up for the free offer.

Total: $65 (Goes towards the person you signed up under)

You signup 5 friends that do the same:

5x65= $325

Mini Ipod cost: $285

FreeIPods.com: Makes about $45 - $65 bucks for the hassle.

its just a pyramiding scheme. while its not necessarily an outright scam...people usually end up getting screwed. even if they do ship out the ipods...think about supply. theres what? 30+ people on this forums that have singed up. how many other hundred forums that have that many or more people signed up. it leads into the thousands quite quickly.

not likely Mr Domain Administrator at PO Box 50945 Washington DC, DC. will be able to get his hands on enough ipods for everybody. (ipod mini's have been in short supply). not to mention the logistics of packing/shipping that many ipods. meaning he would have to hire a shipping/wherehouse staff...cutting into the $45-$65 profit.
