Details about the Intel 6th Generation Core processors, currently know as Skylake, have begun to leak over the past week starting with the processors and followed by compatible motherboards. The first rumored benchmarks for the quad core i7 6700K have been obtained by PCFRM that pit the new CPU against current offerings from Intel and AMD. Benchmarks in the report include PCMark, 3DMark, Cinebench, Crysis 3, GTAV, and Battlefield 4. The 6700K outperformed the comparable i7 4790K in all tests and also beat the six core 5820K in the PCMark test.

If you still have an AMD platform, it is well worth the investment imo. I saw huge gains when i just upgraded from an i5-760 @4.0GHz to a simple i5-2500K @4.5GHz, so i could imagine how big the jump would be from an AMD platform to the new Intel one.

If it outperforms the 5820K, how can it be better in the long run? lol You can certainly get by with the 5820K, no doubt about that, but one shouldn't need to upgrade from that platform imo.

The 5820K already outperforms the 6700K in all 3 games, and in 2/3 benchmarks. And it has a massive cache with the possibility of upgrading to 6 or 8 core LGA2011-3 cpu's.

Nyt, i know gaming is a thing for high-end CPUs, but if the new chip outperforms the 5820K in typical CPU tasks, i would see it as an upgrade to the previous chip. Besides, it is not like the 5820K is THAT much faster, it only is 1 fps difference, and the new chip is a quadcore, not a hexa or octo core. It is probably faster clock for clock as well, so the more reason the new chip will be superior.
