NCC10281982B Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 I am trying to decide on a video card for a new rig. My system is AMD based. I can't find any AMD cards that run on 2.0 that are high end. Any ideas?
red1776 Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 Just out of curiosity, why do you need a PCIE 2.0 ?
NCC10281982B Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 because I have not found an amd board that supports 3.
red1776 Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 because I have not found an amd board that supports 3.0 You don't need one that supports 3.0. PCIE 3.0 and 2.0, and 1.0 are all physically the same interface and backwards compatible. For example, my 7970's are 3.0 and all running in a 2.0 Motherboard. Â If you want one though, I believe that the upcoming Sabertooth rev 3.0 supports PCIE 3.0 (* I will try to verify that and find a link)
freddie Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 Yeah the Sabertooth 990FX Gen3 r2 was announced earlier this month. There was an article about it here but looks like its been rippedhttp://technewspedia.com/asus-announces-new-sabertooth-990fxgen3-card-r2-0/
ir_cow Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 yep they are all backwords compatible. also I dont think any single video card can uses Pcie-3 bandwidth yet. So you won't see the effect using a 3.0 card on a 2.0 slot.
d6bmg Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 PCI-E 2.0 is still going strong everywhere. I didn't see any graphics card review whose performance is significantly improved by using PCI-E 3.0 instead of 2.0 SO you should not worry about it.
