mojunikey7 Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 (edited) So I'm looking to upgrade from two HD 5770's and I can't seem to get a good answer on which to buy. Both are in the same price range, both have their perks (6870, more stream processors, 7770, PCIe 3.0 and awesome in xfire) but when I'm reading reviews of either all I see is people bashing the other card. They are so close in price that I'm pretty confused on which to buy. I am starting to think that the supposed impending AMD price drop is the only thing that will present a clear choice (unless they both drop the same amount) Any thoughts? Waco Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 I think a pair of 5770s is likely faster than either of them for most things.
mojunikey7 Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 The plan was to buy one and then sell the 5770's on the cheap for another. Unless it is pointless, because I don't really have a problem with the 5770's.

Actually that doesn't sound like a bad idea, if you bought a 2GB 6870, you'd could survive until you had money to get another. d6bmg Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 Selling 2x 5770 and buying one 7770 can't be considered as upgrade.
NikoDG Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 Selling 2x 5770 and buying one 7770 can't be considered as upgrade. I think the plan is to buy a 7770, then sell his two 5770's, then use the money from that to buy another 7770. I'd go with the 7770 over the 6870 myself. Muchoman1 Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 I got a pair of 7770s, i'm returning then when 7870s or kelper come out though. I have around 7-10 crashes per day, all from the gpus. Either get the 6870 crossfire our a single bigger card
Rofltroll Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 6870 beats a 7770. Crossfiring 2 7770 has wild results. In some instances 2x7770 beats a 580 in others they perform worse than a single 6870. I think they might need some driver improvements. If you really feel that you need to upgrade i suggest going 6870. I've noticed prices for the 7770 and the 6870 are relatively the same (in some instances the 7770 was more expensive) and from all the reviews i've read so far there is absolutely no reason to get a 7770 over a 6870. VaporX Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 Buy a 7850 and you will be set. At stock speeds the $250 card keeps up with a 570 and with overclocking can be competitive with a 580. Of course all of this may change when Kepler hits.

El_Capitan Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 +1 +1, look for other options besides a 6870 or a 7770. However, the 7850 is the worst overclocker of the 7900/7800 bunch. Overclocked vs overclocked, it won't beat that of an overclocked GTX 570, but it will come pretty darn close. It's more in line with an overclocked GTX 560Ti and overclocked 560Ti 448. MJCRO Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 I'd say either 6870 or 7870 when you can get the money.
