NikoDG Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 Hey guys, I know this is kinda off-topic seeing as how this forum is about computers, but whatever Pretty soon I'm going to but my first new car and I have no idea where to begin. It's pretty intimidating to be honest, there are so many manufacturers I have no idea where to even start looking. So I figured you guys might be able to help, maybe suggest a car or two. I'm hoping to get something sporty, yet fuel efficient. Something that has at least 120-hp, gets at least 36MPG (6.5L/100km), and can hopefully hit 100MPH (160km/h), costing no more than $40,000 CND. A four-seater would be nice, but I can live with a two-seater. FWD or AWD, RWD will not get me anywhere where I live (sadly I had to exclude the Camaro for this reason). I'll probably post up on a car forum too, but I figured some of you have bought cars so you might have some insights. Thanks in advance, Niko. Owenisbad Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 How do you have $40,000 to spend on your first car?! If I was you I'd get something cheaper, so here's my suggestions: Toyota Starlet Glanza V- very fast, tuneable and reliable, quite economical but import only in the uk at least Peugeout 106 gti- Also fast and probably more economical but not as reliable. MKIV/V Golf GT- Very economical and quite fast especially when remapped, but it is a diesel.
NikoDG Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 Lol, I work 14/6 (on a slow week) Also, I live in Canada, so I'm not sure if I have any of those as an option, haha Thanks though
Comp Dude2 Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 Haha Owen, this guy lives across the water, he's not going to buy a boring golf. Everyone over there will drive some 3.0L saloon rocketship. And 36mpg is hardly 'economical' these days, so a big engine is still on the cards.
NikoDG Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 Lol, yeah, I think a Camaro (the one with the smaller engine) gets 36MPG. Sadly RWD and icy roads don't mix at all...
xPETEZx Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 hmm, not sure how much a BMW 3er is over there, but for £25k you could get one new here! Not sure you guys can get the "x" drive versions. (I know we in the UK dont) but a 330xd would be EPIC! Just had a quick look on Auto trader ca and found this: BMW 335xi couldn't find my diesels on there, perhaps you guys just arent as keen as us on Diesel. NikoDG Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 I like diesel, but you're right, I'm pretty sure it's more of a European thing. Hence VW, BMW, etc making diesel cars, and Chevrolet, Ford, Dodge, etc not. Also, I think the BMW 3 Coupe breaks my budget, by about $4,000 CND.
