Stonerboy779 Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 Where is your sli bridge? Sli won't work without it and sli will only probably just be able to register with dual 580s pretty much maxing the bandwidth of the pci-e slots which would also explain why sli works for the top two gainwards when the plait pci-e slot is disabled. the slots will probably be working x16 and have enough bandwidth for sli in 2d 3 way will pull it down to x8 or x4 (mind you I haven't looked up your board specs yet. The sli bridge allows for more bandwidth between cards so that they can work together it is possible to run the lowest of the low cards with sli compatibility in x16 slots without an sli bridge. As it is if you have been, as I think you are, running without the bridge then that dual sli worked at all is amazing.

Stonerboy779 Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 Read this http://www.hardware-revolution.com/p55-motherboards-crossfire-sli-performance-problem/ Dual sli will work a seem your final x16 slot is really only an x4 slot in bandwidth and is admitted as such on the asus website. Expansion Slots - 2 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (red) support single at x16 or dual at x8 mode 1 x PCIe x16 (white) supports at x4 mode Even if 3-way was recognized it would be crippled by an x4 slot Finally FAQ on asus FAQs My motherboard has three PCI-e 2.0 x16 slots. Can I use 3-way SLI with this motherboard? Page Tools Solution When all three PCI-e 2.0 x16 slots are occupied on this motherboard, they will work in x8, x8, x4 mode, respectively. ATi's Crossfire technology can function at these speed, so a 3-way Crossfire system is possible. On the other hand, due to Nvidia's VGA driver limitation, SLI does not work under x4 mode, so it is not possible to build a 3-way SLI system with this motherboard. wevsspot Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 Unless you're user's manual is wrong is clearly states that for 3-way SLi that slots 1, 3 and 4 should be populated. Page 2-28. Slot 1 = x16 Slot 3 = x8 Slot 4 = x8 Your board also has PCIe x16 lane switches that can enable or disable the corresponding PCIe slot. Are you sure that all four of those switches are set to the "Enabled" position? Do you have both of the auxilary power molex (4-pin) plugs connected to the board? Asus refers to them as EZ-Plug 1 and EZ-Plug 2.

wevsspot Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 That's really strange. I looked at the manual online since I don't have a printed copy. I wonder why they are different? Here's what I see from the online manual;

Here's what I see from the online manual; Yes i can see it on your photo . I dont know , but also it doesnt make any sense cause the sli bridge is too short and the slis cables max is 12cm that distance from 1 to 4 os 14cm . Anyway i will remove the one card and leave her in the box :/
Stonerboy779 Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 Sorry mate I was on my phone and could no longer see your sig but I thought I had read that you had a Maximus iii so p55 not the rampage iii the x58 chipset you shouldn't have issues getting 3-way sli working unless asus has set it up to only work in a way sli bridges can't reach.
