Best Bang for buck CPU Cooler

Hi Guys

I have a problem, i am folding 24/7 but cant always get my bigadv units in on time so i wont to oc higher, the problem is that my cooler just doesn't cut it. When i built this rig i had not even intended to oc let alone fold 24/7. So i need to find the best bang for the buck cooler. I am not going to give a budget but im going to let you convince me of the best bang for buck at whatever price. (not wc unless well under $100) I would like to get to 4.0GHz but at 3.8 i am hitting 80 with ambient temps of 22. And this is winter. In summer (i will drop back to stock but i want to be able to fold a bit) it gets to 28 or higher.

So please your suggestions and arguments.

:thx:

P.S. My case cooling is more than adequate, if i turn up the fans i get only 2 degree improvement, though i am planning to do a side panel vent soon.

EDIT: Spelling fail.

I think you are misunderstanding what that phrase means

what you seem to be asking is the most affordable way to push your computer to a max overclock and that is never "the best bang for your buck"

another thing, I am not sure about your house, but my house is much hotter in the winter

that is because I turn the heater on

be very very careful of static shock, do not work on a carpet and run a humidifier, make sure you wear a wrist ban as well an no fuzzy sweaters

the 212 is the best bang for your buck, next would be a frio, if you want to spend 80$ on an air cooler you can get a noctua

1. I want the best cooling per dollar, i would like to be able to hit 4.0+. If the best cooling for the dollar just gets me too 4.0 or even just 3.9 but cooler than my current cooler i will consider it.

2. My house is 71 F today(or 21.6666666), warm outside, we heat the house with a wood stove and my comp. :teehee: In the summer it gets mid 80s before we turn the ac on.

3. Whats all that about anti static and humidifiers. Static i know about. I constantly ground myself when working and i work on a hard linoleum floor. As for the humidifier why? I take it you do not live in the deep south. 100% humidity in the summer.

EDIT: Let me change my phrasing. The best overclocking cooling for the dollar.

How bout not cheap but not expensive, the 212+ doesn't look that much better than my current cooler. Is there anything up from that but not as expensive as a d14?(a new d14 as i have failed to contact the seller of the one you showed)

what do you have now again??

Like I said, nothing will beat the D14 for $50+ shipping. I'd get it if I was lacking cooling (but since my newer processor will use less energy, I wont have to worry about switching coolers)

I have a hyper 212+ on my computer. I have an amd athlon x4 @ 3.8 at 1.55 volts. At full load it's around 40 degrees. Sometimes it's a little higher but it never hit 45. But I do have an ambient temperature of 15 degrees. So idk how that would affect you.

Yeah i think the Sunbeam Core Contact 120mm or Coolermaster Hyper 212+ are the best coolers for cheap.

or the D14 for $50+ ship is probably the best cooler for the $ at that price

Both of these coolers are def "Best Bang for your Buck" worthy! But at the price Tropical is asking for that D14, seems like a clear winner IMHO

And potato, I think Speed was very clear in his 1st post and what he is looking for is "best bang for your buck at whatever price" which is verbatim what he said

I was running the frio with great results. I'm currently running an i7 930 at 4GHz on a corsair H70 and the funny thing is that the H70 in only about 4-5 degrees cooler. IMO The frio is the bang for your buck. Install was a bit tricky and the unit it self weighs about 2 ponds but well worth it just a great cooler all around. Frio temps at 4 GHz idle mid to low 30's prime 95 torture 68,66,67,67 after 6 hrs. The h70 for a hundred bucks brought them down 4-5 degrees across the board. Go liquid for best coolin and the H7o is only 100 (mayby cheaper on some sites) and the install was easy peezy japaneezy! Good luck!

The H70 and H50 in push/pull is great but the NH-D14 and Frio are extremely good too. I would go with the cheapest one of this three that you can find

Edit: Go for this cooler , its pretty cheap and offers great performance

Sumbeam Core Contact Freezer 4 is the cooler I found to be the best one for the money ~ 50$. It's good enough to get you to 4.0Ghz as long as your CPU allows it. I can go up to 3.9Ghz easily without even increasing the fan speed to the max. (couldn't go up to 4.0Ghz because of the CPU). Check out some reviews for it and see if you like.

Okay, it seems to be between the Thermaltake Frio and Tropical Priests D-14. I have not been able to contact him, but if i manage to sell these GPUs for a decent price i will be able to get a one whether from him or not.
