Overclocking 1090T to 4.4GHz or higher?

So, I spent most of last night setting up watercooling for the AMD rig in my sig. I mostly wanted it because I want to watercool my GPU's since I like it quiet. One problem I ran into was using a dual stack 120.2 (two 120.2 rads together, essentially become a 120.4, just not as efficient). Well, it wouldn't fit under the inside top of my Storm Sniper, so I fitted it in the back of the case. However, the holes didn't line up, so I essentially made two loopty-loops (I'll attach a pic later). It looks funny, but it's cool, in a way.

 

Then, I had 3 spots where it leaked that I had to fix. Anyways, at the end of it all, my max temps in Prime95 at 4.0GHz was 32C! That leaves a lot of headroom... but maybe not so much after I watercool a HD 5870 2GB that's on it's way sometime in the near future (taco, don't die from the plague until after you ship it! :P ).

 

Anyways, I spent some time overclocking (however much you can overclock when it's 4:15AM and you work at 8:00AM and you still haven't slept). I was able to get a stable 4.230GHz with a 23.5 multi and 180 bus, but with a high 1.525v on my CPU. Temps were in the safe zone, like 36C in Prime95.

 

Just wondering if anyone here has overclocked their 1090T to see where it can go? I'm fine with 4.0GHz at 1.45v, but damn, I don't like higher voltages even if my cooling can handle it. If it takes 1.55v to reach 4.4GHz, I'll probably stick with where I'm at.

I'd try and find out the highest attainable bclock (at a low multiplier) and then find the highest clock the cpu will go (on a lower bclock) then just find the best combination of the two to get closest to the max CPU and higher bclock

Yeah, that's the thing, I seem to have issues unless I crank my CPU voltage to 1.525 and higher... and only for 230MHz + gains. Just seeing where others might have gotten to. If I could get to 4.4GHz with 1.525, I'd be okay with that. At 1.55 or higher, doesn't seem worth it to me.

 

At 4.0GHz, I can go 25x160 or 21x190 with 1.45v.

At 4.23GHz, I went with 23.5x180 with 1.525v.

At 4.4GHz, I'm afraid it might take me 22x200 with 1.6v.

Lol, my Q6600 is the same way only with 3.0GHz instead of 4.0

 

I say just leave it at a comfortable 4, which would keep your temps nice and low, keep the voltages low, and keep the power usage down. XD

Yeah, it's what I'll do. AMD's got some temperature efficient CPU's, that's for sure! I'd be hitting the 70C's with an i7 920 at 4.0GHz using the same cooling.

What temps do you get with 1.6v?? As long as you're 60c max under heavy load I'd go as high as you can

They don't make as much heat but they have a much lower maximum safe heat. So what if an i7 is running at 85c or even low 90s under harsh load, its still safe. If a Phenom hits 85c for any length of time it is going to fry. Just an observation.

Btw that sounds like an interesting setup. Some pics would be cool.

Just FYI, I prefer low heat and silence over looks. Thus, I replaced two of the 200mm fans with the Noctua NH-D12's, and all are on U.L.N.A. mode, including the fans sandwiched between the radiators. Here's some pics (computer was off):

Capi you are in need of some fans on the outer side of the back rad pulling. On a water cooled setup you get the best results when the fans pull air across the radiatior, not push (of course push/pull is a different story). Not sure where exactly you want your noise levels to be, but if it were me, I would make sure to hace 2 fans on the back side of the 2nd rad to make sure I was getting some "pull"

 

Also, your temps are key when it comes to damaging components, not volts. Not saying volts aren't important, but like ivi sd, if my temps are in gd shape, I will continue to push! When the temps get out of line, that is when you can do damage ;)

It's better to pull the air rather than push? I thought that you wouldn't generate as much air from pulling as opposed to pushing? I'm fine for now, but if I decide to crank up my speeds more, I'll definitely add more fans to pull some of the heat out (when there's heat). Yeah, well, I never had a CPU crap out on me, and don't want that to happen, now! I'll try to overclock it some more later tonight.
