Need help finding a PSU please!

So, I've been researching and looking for a good PSU for the new system I'm building. I'm kind of a newbie when it comes to the technical jargon so bear with me and try not to laugh too hard ;D.

 

I haven't put anything together just yet, but here are the specs of the hardware I have and what I'm still waiting to get:

 

Case: Cooler Master HAF 932 (Blue)

Motherboard: MSI 790FX-GD70 AM3 AMD 790FX ATX AMD

Processor: AMD Phenom II x4 965 Black Edition

Memory: OCZ AMD Black Edition 8GB (4 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600

Hard Drives: WD Velociraptor 150GB SATA 3.0Gb/s 10000rpm; Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm SATA 3.0gb/s

Graphics: 2 x XFX ATI Radeon 5850 1GB 256-bit DDR5 Crossfire

OS: Linux (Ubuntu), Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

 

I'm planning on over clocking and I think I'm going to go with a 1000W PSU, but I just don't know which to choose. I keep seeing people point to Antec right away or Corsair or something else and it's starting to get frustrating. I think I find a decent one and then read too many reviews saying otherwise....

 

As for budget I'm building this whole system on $2,000 and I've decided I don't want to spend more than $160 on the power supply.

 

Suggestions of what to buy, tips on what to look for, anything at all will be appreciated! Please help!

You really don't need a 1000W power supply for the rig you're building. It's kind of an overkill. Your best bet is to get a high quality psu in the capacity that suits your build, instead of spending more money on a lower quality unit that says it's a 1000W power supply

Realistically a good quality 600W unit would do the job but I like a little to spare so .

 

If you like modular then the Corsair HX units are within your budget.

Stay away from Rosewill.... They have had a bad rep in the past in The PSU division.

I won't down play that Rosewill is a major contender in the mid-low price computer parts industry, and for the most part they make average to good parts. But I wouldn't trust my own rig to one of their big dog power supplies. Therefore I can't recommend them for yours.

 

Stick with a high quality, well recognized brand name. Seasonic, Antec, XFX, Corsair, Thermaltake, OCZ, PC P&C, etc.

 

In the long run you'll be happy that you did.

I've talked with some sales reps and a few other people and I think I'm going to go with one of the Corsair psu's most likely one of the HX series. One of the benefits of the HX series it is modular. The TX series, if I remember, is not.

You are correct

 

To the OP - good choice going with the Corsair. They make great power supplies, and in fact are my personal choice for use in my own rigs.
