a build for a friend

Well I got a friend into Warhammer online (an MMORPG) and his computer is just at the lowest end of that game it makes me laugh how long it takes to load and move. I suggested to him I could build one (besides buying from a brick and mortar) for cheaper and a better build. Well here is what I'm looking at and what I can work it:

 

Client spec:

Budget - $500-1,000

TV monitor - 37 inch, 1280x768 resolution

OS is pending (he is a student, so trying to get windows 7 for $35)

Life-span - 3 to 4 years

Computer use - Gaming

i have a 9800gtx+ i could sell you/him for a lot cheaper.

 

stay away from a lga775 build. go either AM3 or 1156 for this build. ill throw something together in a minute

yeah he is on a tight budget - so anything will help me out (and let me know how much for the 9800gtx)

why not 775's - they going extinct now?

yes they are going extinct and you can get better performance for cheaper from AM3 AMD stuff and maybe even some 1156 intel .. sorry im busy right now but when im done ill throw some more suggestions out there

The other stuff you've picked out, like the hard drive and video card, will work out just fine. However, I'd suggest a different case that would be much easier on cable mangament, like the Cooler Master CM690 II Advanced for $99.99.

775 LGA is old i would rather go for the new 1156 dual core i3 with H55 chipset more over clocking headroom.should go for 5750 its better than 9800gtx and dx11 and it can play nething at that res

1280x720 is nice, the 9800GTX+ might be able to handle Crysis on high, lol.

 

I suggest a Phenom II X3 build.

Phenom II x3 720 BE build is the best for budget, you can always upgrade to x6 later on the same AM3 board you buy now.

 

Or... go for the LGA 1366 with an i7 920. Lots are being sold used with the i7 930 out, or you can pick one up at MicroCenter if you're near one. I've also got a LGA1366 motherboard I'm selling for $100, top overclock will be 3.6GHz because of BCLK limitations, but it's still a sturdy board.

I'm sorry but not a huge fan for ATI (bad experience a few times in the past) Is there anything in the NVIDIA line-up that can surpass a 9800 for around the same price? Besides that I feel like this might be a pretty good setup.
