sdy284 Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 go to step 3, and download the appropriate version of prime 95 http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft/ while it is testing your CPU, wait about 10 minutes and then post a screenshots of both CPUZ and your temp monitor
ArnieF4440 Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 (edited) I'm having a similar problem with my 920 but with the stock heatsink. I ran prime95 for 15 mins and the temps (using coreTemp) on the cores ranged from a min of 72 to a max of 100 XD. I'm gonna re-mount the heatsink when I get home and my mum stops drooling at the speed of my machine, lol (she's been using a 6 y.o. Dell which is still running a celeron and ddr1). I guess I'll be watching this thread carefully. But any recommendations for a good heatsink except the noctua? tkrow21 Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 \Forgot to say, the voltage varies from 0.944 to 1.200.\ Turn voltage off of auto.
Boinker Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 make sure if your at stock your not using "AUTO" for CPU voltage.when i got my asus mobo, the bios had my voltages going way too high under 100% load. it would auto give my cpu around 1.35 to run prime95 (with HT on) thats a p*** poor estimate that resulted in way too high of temps for a brief period. I've never had a issue with just putting a grain of rice sized blob in the center.. i can see some noob having an issue with a razor getting it all over and having something get somewhere it shouldn't, alot of thermal paste is conductive you may make it sound simple, but you've done it too many times Neither have I.. It's just the way I prefer to do it as I clearly stated, But you couldn't wrap that around your head cause the method you use is better right? <_>
Elyankee69 Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 (edited) Yep, turn auto voltage off and check that the grease is spread evenly... You can also lap the proc. and hs... Good Luck Edited March 29, 2010 by Elyankee69
ArnieF4440 Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 what would be a good voltage? hypothetically? I checked my heatsink and it seems the thermal paste didn't spread itself evenly. I'm gonna get some artic 5 and re-do it XD
Fragsman Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 where are the girls in this thread? you said there was something hot inside
ebarone Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 Slight thread derailment: How hot is too hot for an i7, and does that max safe temperature vary with i7 model?
ArnieF4440 Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 ive re-mouted my heatsink with AS5, temps are currently around th 80s at full load and I'm hoping that goes down over the break in period. I've left the CPU voltage at auto ATM
Bandrew Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Slight thread derailment: How hot is too hot for an i7, and does that max safe temperature vary with i7 model? Well, it will start throttling back at 100C, and for ever day temps it shouldn't be much over 80C.
Rankiz Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 go to step 3, and download the appropriate version of prime 95http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft/ while it is testing your CPU, wait about 10 minutes and then post a screenshots of both CPUZ and your temp monitor I waited for some minutes only, as the high temp scared me.
