Water Cooling

Recommended Posts

So I want to get an idea of how water cooling performs compared to high-end air cooling. The example components are a core i7 860 and two 4870x2s. The water cooling setup that I configured was this:

CPU: Danger Den MPC-CPU

VGA: 2 x Danger Den DD-4870-X2

Reservoir: XSPC 5.25" Bay Reservoir

Just wondering how water cooling performs. Thanks!

With a decent setup. Unloaded temps would be anywhere from 0 to 10*C cooler and loaded temps wouldn't go up more than maybe (on the setup I had it was about 10*C) 15*C.

So, it keeps the temps more even rather than going from good temps to shooting up high. It balances them better.

Both i7's and 4870X2s are VERY hot and should not be ran on the same loop.

I would run them on two seperate loops, or just run that loop on the CPU and leave the 4870X2 air cooled - they don't overclock well anyway.

Guys, he wasn't asking about that specific setup, from his post he was asking how watercooling COMPARES to high end air. Not, how does this setup sound?

The setup sucks, yes, that's agreed. Water cooling in general if done correctly, is much better than air cooling. Answer solved.

No, I'm pretty sure he was comparing those two specific setups...

I'm a complete noob to water cooling. I have no idea how to choose parts. Can someone show me a system that can cool better for a similar price or less? Or can anyone give me a guide about choosing WC parts? If not, can you make one?

BTW, I was just using this setup as an example.
