Onion Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 (edited) I put my ear close to my psu just now, and it is making some weird crackling sounds. Is this normal? The psu is an antec truepower quattro modular 1000 watt. Edit: I just put my ear up to my antec earthwatts 380 and it doesn't make any noise... GabrielT Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 (edited) Sounds bad to me but something could just be lodged in there and is making a "Ticking sound" against the fan but crackling sounds bad to me, I say wait for another user who is smerter than me though. psycho_terror Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 my last PSU started making ticking, cricket noises a couple weeks before it died. i'd start planning the funeral personally.
Nasha Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Doesn't sound good. Personally, I would RMA it immediately, and if that can't be done, replace it one way or another. If it isn't the fan some thing may be shorting out on the PSU. That's my 2 cents, hope your vocal PSU is fine though.

Yeah me too, and I agree that if you have another psu handy to use it since they sometimes take out other components with them. paulktreg Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Crackling noises are never good! Replace it NOW and RMA it. Don't take any chances it could take something else with it when it goes! Cheers Paul
Reagnon Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 I think it is getting to hot iside (becouse a malfunctioning part) and the heatsinks in there are expanding because of the heat. this can create a cracking sound. it is no good and i agree with the others, replace it!
