Kash Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Watchmen isn't about the action, it's about the compelling story and the human condition. If you went expecting a typical superhero action flick, you were setting yourself up for disappointment.
d3bruts1d Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 It didn't have a compelling story.
slugbug Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 A friend saw it and hated it. With his crappy taste in movies I guess that means I'll love it
ir_cow Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 (edited) movie was an hour to long, just think of sin city... great movie waaay to long. for once the previews made a comic movie look worse that it was. I'm amazed... Edited March 9, 2009 by hornybluecow
Waco Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Seriously though, I don't know how this movie didn't end up with an NC-17 rating, I guess that just goes to show how screwed up MPAA is. Why would it be NC-17? Nudity is something that needs to be in more things daily. Far too many people are far too prudish about anything sexual. It's not like you saw Dr. Manhatten running around with a raging hardon or anything.

xPETEZx Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Saw this Friday afternoon.... Was ok. 5 out of 10 probably. I havent read the novel either, and found it abit boring tbh... I assume an NC-17 rating means 17's or over? If its not that in the US, what is it? Here in the the UK its an 18+, but tbh,I think 15+ would have been more fitting. The rating system in the US is messed up and crap. Basically an R rating means you have to be 17 or accompanied by an adult. The difference between PG-13 and R can be as little as the f-bomb said twice, or lots of violence, ., etc. The NC-17 rating means you have to be 17, period. It doesn't matter if mommy and daddy say it is ok. People think of NC-17 as 'XXX' however that is incorrect.

It means no one 17 or under, so yes, it's the same 18+. It's basically what porn is rated at. Rarely will you ever find a movie in the theater that scores that. My two friends who have read the novel first told me they don't see how anyone who didn't read the novel would enjoy it...that they leave out too much, so if you didn't read it, you won't know everything. O(V)eGA_l2el) Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Before watching the movie, I read the comics. Basically, a good comic became a good movie. Some parts of the story, in the movie, were different compared to the comics such as those parts involving Rorschach and the doctor. Overall, I highly recommend people read the comics before watching movie. People will get a better understanding of the "crimebusters" past. Your friends are wrong. I went with a friend who didn't read the graphic novel and he understood the movie perfectly fine. Sure, I knew a bit more about the back story and the minute details, but they weren't essential to understanding the movie.
