MegaDime Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Greetings! I have an AMD Athlon X2 7750 Black Edition CPU and I am looking for a decent mobo to OC it. AFAIK The AMD 790## + SB750 is the best platform for overcloaking, but considering it's a bit expensive (~120 Euros) for my budget, what's the next best thing? (nForce 780a SLI perhaps )
damian Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 There are a few low cost 790gx boards that have superb overclocking potential. Take a look at some offerings from Biostar.
redtigerdragon Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Take a look at some offerings from Biostar. Biostar is actually a pretty good cheap board.
MegaDime Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Thank you for helping me. Unfortunately Biostar mobos are not available in my Country (Yes Really) So 790FX/X+SB600 is better than 780G+SB700 for OC?

damian Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 (edited) Thank you for helping me. Unfortunately Biostar mobos are not available in my Country (Yes Really) So 790FX/X+SB600 is better than 780G+SB700 for OC? The 790FX/GX chipsets with an 750SB tend to overclock better than a 790FX+SB600/780G boards. If you cant find either, the 780g chipset is still pretty good for the price. Baulten Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 780G is a great budget board, but not as good as 790FX + SB 600 for overclocking.
MrAlex Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 ASRock is usually cheap and reliable: AMD 790GX A790GMH/128M A790GXH/128M A790GX/128M

I was able to get a 9850 past 4GHz with a 780a though so no complaints there. 780g is okay but better options exist.

Its been running prime95 for about 20 hrs w/o any hiccups. Hope this helps......
