Is AMD any good?

Recommended Posts

I would like to know if AMD is any good. I am on a tight budget and I would like to know if you guys have any good or bad experiences with AMD. This will be my first time getting AMD and I don't know if it is any good. The computers in the past all had Intel processors and I would like to know if AMD is a good reliable, and trustworthy brand. Thank you for your time.

yes they are reliable and trustworthy, as much as intel. Right now, intel is slightly ahead in terms of peak performance, but AMD probably wins if you factor in cost. Most things you do on the computer, you would see no noticeable difference between the two brands. I have had good experiences with both. If you wanted to share with us how much you intend to spend and exactly what you need I'm sure someone could even spec one out for you. Or do a quick search.

If you go AMD get the Phenom II hands down... brand new and its really helping AMD make a strong comback into the desktop market. They have new lower end models if your looking to spend less. The triplecore is only $120 and with a simple bios setting its possible to unlock the 4th core ;). They are very overclockable too

Been using AMD for the past 9 years. Haven't had any problems with them.

That only works on some boards and even then it's not 100% stable. Honestly tho, they never really went anywhere. The 9850/9950 was on par with the Q6600/E8400 in gaming and normal usage, the Phenom II is what put them ahaid of Intel price/performance wise.

Yes i have 600 with no hard drive and cd drive. I made a build with a Phenom II 940 and a HD4870. 2gb ram is enough for me (will upgrade later)

AMD's Phenom II's are really awesome for their price tag, I really want to build one for someone so i can mess with one (I've also had Intel all my life)

Thanks. Im really leaning towards the Phenom II. Can anyone build me a good comp for the 600 dollar price tag?

you said you DO or DON'T need to include a harddrive and burner in with the $600 price?

in other words you need a processor, motherboard, harddrive, burner, memory, and video card right? (with the givens inputted where necessary)

Thanks for the help but sorry for the lack of information. I DO NOT need a drive and hard drive. The video card must be equivalent or better than a 4850 and must be crossfire ready
