For two reasons 1. come on 4870's? if your going to do three gpu's(which first of all why in the world are you going to do three gpus?) why not three gpu's that perform better? How about 3x 260 BE. If you seriously want to go overboard on graphics(why in the world would you because that's insane) grab 2x 295's. The second problem is putting in the third GPU will block the usb connectors on your MOBO, as well as the front panel connectors. paulktreg Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 (edited) Three 4870 graphics cards! Do I read that correctly? Why? Not sure about the power supply, the wattage is OK its just the quality. Can't find much info on the net which is never a good sign. It would be a shame for the PSU to let you down with all that money invested. Verran Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 Ugh. That's what I say to tri-graphics cards. That's a bragging rights spec, plain and simple. Figure out what you actually need at your chosen resolution and do it with the least amount of cards possible. A single 4870x2 or 295 should be MORE than enough. Probably even a single 285. PS as well, if you did all that you wrote why not a bit bigger and better.

t12am Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 ok so i should drop tri-crosfire and go for a x2 4780 and can you recomend a good PSU There are a few nice PSU on the market that will hold true power // I like thermalTake but i would also look into SILVERSTONE as well. For what you want why not 1000w. EX: SILVERSTONE ST1000 1000W Thermaltake W0132RU 1000W Should be no issue on a price if you where looking to 3x graphics card. Pick up PSU with monies saved on (x2 4780)

Coors Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 Quad SLI/crossfire is overkill for that res. I'd go dual cards at the most. But then again i'd just go with a single high end card. And no need for a 1KW psu unless running tri SLI.
xly15 Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 You won't even really need 1000w psu. 750 to 850 should be enough. Go with something from OCZ, corsair, or PCP&C.
nightsider Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 update im going to go with a SILVERSTONE ST1000 PSU but im not sure if i should go with two HD-487A-ZDDC - 1GB XFX HD 4870 XXX, PCI-E 2.0 (x16), 3800MHz's or with a single 2GB Gainward Rampage700 GS GLH, PCI-E 2.0, 3800MHz
