Krieg1337 Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 (edited) Hey guys, I was just wondering which GPU is more worth it? The GTX 260 192core for $230, which is overclocked http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814130373 Or the GTX 260 216core for $250-$260 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814130398 Or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814150329 Thanks Edited December 20, 2008 by Darkfuneral1337
Bigevil954 Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 my vote goes for the 216sp version. Newer and a bit faster.
Krieg1337 Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 (edited) I forgot to add that I will probably get this next year around the end of march, so maybe the prices will drop even more on the 216 version EDIT: Just wanted to say that newegg reviews are horrible... http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductRevie...N82E16814130373 Check out what "jared" said. Pilliy Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 I wonder how many magical reviews jarred does, and he'll probably rave about how his Socket A processors stomp on the I7s in movie crunching. I feel sorry for the person who actually responded to him =/ If you're not getting a card till March, wait before deciding on a card. With the GTX295 looking like it will put Nvidia back on top, prices will fall sharply and newer revisions of new cards will most likely come out. If you were getting it soon, go get the XFX 216 shader card, it can give a 10% increase in performance in some games.
IVIYTH0S Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 jared's the man! lol thats why you can't believe any non-professional reviews. I'd say get the core 216 because if you're going to get a core 192 260 you might as well just get a 4870 (because it's cheaper and better than it)
Pheoman Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 Next year we'll see 55nm variant of GTX260 coming out and (a little speculation here) maybe variants with number of shader processors more than 216. Something with computing power of GTX280 at today's prices of GTX260. As of Jared's comment - looks like his card was defective or like a driver problem
abid Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 or wait for the gtx295??
Pheoman Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 or wait for the gtx295?? Nice card, but will cost ~ $499 - a lot more than GTX260.
Krieg1337 Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 or wait for the gtx295?? I play at 1440x900, the GTX295 would be total overkill. The GTX 260 is too I guess, but I will probably keep this card for around 1-2 years. And I can't afford over $300.
ccokeman Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 The GTX260-216 is a great card for the money. You cannot go wrong with it.
