Best Way To Oc An Amd

I am just starting to overclock and I dont know that much about it, and I was just wondering for an AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ would it be better to have a higher FSB and Lower multiplier or higher multiplier and lower FSB.

Also which one would require more voltage to run stable?

alot of it depends on the board...

for your board loosen TRFC to 105 or 107.5 and TRC to 26 (you might not have that option or it may default to 24 for the highest)

max async to 6 or 8 depending and rock on...primaries can be on Auto or set at the rated speed...

start cranking the bus...keep the HT link to 1200MHZ as noted by CPU-Z and clock away...set vcore at 1.45v and boot at 3Gs...it's that simple...really

what is the async?

should I leave the CAS Latency at auto?

EDIT:

So I did that and I have it up to 3.0GHz, my voltage is ~1.5v

I am running at ~75 C at 100% load.

Bad I know but overly bad? since I will never really be using my CPU at 100% capacity.

Should I keep going or call it quits until i get a new cooler?

Try to bump your voltage down, I can hit 3.0 Ghz with my AMD 64x2 5200+ at 1.3v easily. If you can't get your load temps down to 60c or less, wait for a cooler, this one keeps my processor at 42c 3ghz OC under load... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16835207004

Beware, it is somewhat large so make sure our case is wide enough (7.5 inches or more as the HS is around 15cm tall)

What are your other settings at, mine wont even boot with a voltage that low. my motherboard forces it into safe mode and sets my fsb back to 200MHz

edit

I was looking at these coolers

I use an included utility with my Gigabyte board, Easy Tune pro5.

Multi: 13.5x

FSB: 223mhz

RAM: 430 mhz 1.9v (G.Skill 2 gb kit)

VCore: according to CPU-Z it's 1.328, but I have it set to 1.3

RAM Timings: 5 5 5 15 21

HT is set to auto at the moment

I'm not a very experienced OCer so I left a lot of stuff on auto.

In regards to your coolers, the first one looks quite small and seems to have dimensions similar to the stock cooling on a 5200+ (except for larger fan) which leads me to believe you will not see much better temps. If you're looking for a massive, expensive cooler (lire ht second you linked to, don't consider anything except the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme http://www.thermalright.com/new_a_page/pro...oler_u120ex.htm

instead of getting a so-so heatsink from newegg...

snag one off Ebay from Zalman's refurb site....

I have bought dozens of coolers from here...

cheap and all of them had zero blemishes

How dare you recommend the Zalman. ;)

Love mine!

Cheers
