PHENOMinal Phlop?

Well the last year hasn't looked good for AMD and 2008 isn't looking much better either. The reviews are out and the general consensus is that clock per clock AMD's new offerings are still 10% slower than C2D. The samples in the reviews are not retail but really what does that matter? At the end of the day AMD's fastest quad offering is still slower than Intel's slowest. Yowsers.

Where I've been keeping up and a list of reviews contained within thread: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=166184

If someone wants to stay a 'fanboy' they will have to strap some H20 to this chip, BIOS mod OC to hell and stop complaining about their electricity bills! - even then they will only be breaking even with intels offerings in terms of raw performance.

It saddens me a bit as AMD had the guts and know how to take the technology hotspot 3 years ago - but what is ailing them now? Had their top engineers left shortly after K8 was done with a big pat on the back? Mysteries.

Marco.

I was holding off buying my new system until I got some info on the AMD Quad cores. I will most likely be going with Intel for the time being, but I am still interested in the quad GPU set up that the AMD platform offers.

I might be completely off base but I feel like this situation puts us the consumers in a better spot for the future. We all remember Intel putting out chips that couldn't hold a candle to what AMD was putting out up until C2D. I was personally amazed with how far Intel came with C2D and feel that if AMD didn't put some heat on Intel we would not of got a chip that was a good as it currently is.

It forces the companies to really rethink what they are doing and get a better chip to market ASAP.

I will admit that Intel really does seem light years ahead though with Intel coming out with 45nm Tech this year and AMD still a year or so away from that mark it will be hard for AMD to come back.

I am not a fan boy, I have jumped back and forth from AMD to Intel for the last 5 years I just really want to see what kind of counter AMD will be coming out with in a few years.
