3stars Posted May 6, 2007 Posted May 6, 2007 there are a few car heater cores that a pretty easy to work with roughly the right shape i think the toyota cameray pre 96 is copper cored and about perfect for 2 120mm fans. allthough i like you idea of the ac unit what about a ceiling fan on a relay and dimmer switch roughly the same size and fairly cheap solution
wildman2 Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 added a fan 8in 500+ cfm, did some metal work also some painting.Still needs some work .this is just a test fit and test to see how well the fan draws.Believe it or not it is not very loud my current pc is louder. I plan on putting blue flames on the sides maybe a skull w/blueish flames in front between the vent holes. Yes that is a hinge on the top,it gull wings off. AnUnknownSource Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 nice work! That fan is awesome! I have a huge (20cm or so) ac powered fan that goes in the top of huge ceiling height server racks... the thing would cut your finger off if you're not careful, lol edit: Oh, and as far as heater cores go, a 1977 Pontiac Bonneville Heatercore will work, you just have to adapt the ports to your size tubing... works way better than anything designed for watercooling and isn't that big... edit again: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1970-1971-1972-Pontiac-GTO-heater-core_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33548QQihZ014QQitemZ330119756807QQrdZ1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Heavy-Duty-Heater-Core-NEW_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ46094QQihZ010QQitemZ200108850838QQrdZ1 and my favorite: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1995-1997-Jaguar-XJ6-Heatercore_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33548QQihZ013QQitemZ230116023981QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V
wildman2 Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 THX That fan is made for a heating duct. It's made in 4in,6in and 8in diameter. May have to go down to the local autozone and see if they have some heater cores in stock. Still have to sand and paint that back panel where the fan is. Front needs some work still, didn't show up till the shiny paint was put on. Other than that it is coming along half way decent. bcbooter Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 in my opinion the ultimate setup would be to have two compartments, one with all the hdd's cd's power supply. keep this area at the top with air blowing out the top. make sure u have negative air pressure. Then on the bottom compartment you would have ram, cpu, mobo, vid card which would be exhausted out the back. Main idea is to keep heat from the optical drives etc away from storage area two components. *what you have laid out looks good too, good luck
