Mindriot Posted November 9, 2003 Posted November 9, 2003 I need to find the best Heatsink out there for my new MOBO which is the Gigabyte GA-7nnXPV. One thing I should note is the Board doesnot have much room for a big Heatsink. As you can see from the link of the board below. GA-7NNXP I should also mention this board has dual power, which I'm going to assume is going to add some unwanted heat. Grant it it has it's own fan, but it's really close to the CPU Socket. Noise level is not an issue for me. I don't really care how loud my box is (that's what headphones are for ). I just need a good cooling heatsink. I've already burnt 2 Athlon XP 2400+ chips. And I'm looking to avoid further burn out. I've been using the stock AMD Box Heatsink. They are obviously not up to snuff. Here is what my temperatures were running at Idle with old GA-7avXP board: Case temp- 41 degrees CPU temp- 56 degrees (oof!) Pizoi Posted November 9, 2003 Posted November 9, 2003 Just find a smaller heatsink (like a Volcano), and slap a bigass 92mm Vantec Tornado fan on it. Just be sure that you're really not worried about noise first, because they're ~50db.
Sainou-Kun Posted November 9, 2003 Posted November 9, 2003 He said heat syncs not fans..Thermalalight's SP-94, Its one of the best ever made.
Guest Trios Posted November 9, 2003 Posted November 9, 2003 The SP-94 will not fit on his motherboard. You darned P4 guys thinking that we're all like you. Get the SLK-900A. The guys at Thermalright have yet to find a motherboard it doesn't fit on, and it's performance is far above and beyond the call of duty. Get a 92mm Tornado to go with it and you're set. Unfortunately, I don't have one of these (YET!), but you'd better believe I'll be getting one, and throwing out my opinion of it compared to my Volcano 11. howie b Posted November 9, 2003 Posted November 9, 2003 I say go with an sk-7 coupled with the same Vantec Tornado 92mm....It is a bit smaller than the slk (it should definately fit), and it costs a helluvalot less.
Mercury Posted November 10, 2003 Posted November 10, 2003 im not sure, but if i were you id get a thermalright 947u, they are large VERTICALLY on the mobo, and looks like you have plenty of space that way. thats the best heatsink on the market at the time its just rather large. if for some reason that wouldnt fit then i would get a coolermaster hhc-
Mindriot Posted November 10, 2003 Posted November 10, 2003 (edited) I have no mounting holes for the bracket. I think I see a retention clip for the SLK-947U in the packaging for standard mounting on 462 Socket. Am I right on that ? I just want to be sure. FanATIc205 Posted November 11, 2003 Posted November 11, 2003 slk800-a or maybe the 900a if it will fit and =either a 80 or 92mm tornado would be the best cooling. they have to be the a versions since your mobo doesnt have mounting holes
wanksta Posted November 11, 2003 Posted November 11, 2003 if u dont wanna spend too much and have a all copper hsf get the volcan 11 (not + it is a waste), it cools really well

DevilMB3017 Posted November 12, 2003 Posted November 12, 2003 Will a SLK900 fit? I don't think so personally... I would suggest the Aero7 - the turbine fan will cool good and should fit without a big hassle.
