I would suggest AM2 to him, but he's ready to buy right away, and I know they havent worked out all the bugs yet in the AM2s. And I dont want him to be having problems on his first build. Thanks, Mako3 Well, it's not going to make anything faster, and even the biggest games hardly use more than 1GB. If he's doing a lot of video editing it'll help, but other than that at this point it's kinda a waste of money. Granted if I had lots of money I'd still do it, but I'd rather get dual graphics cards first. And I have yet to see a single problem about the GXS power supplies (that I remember), they're the most recommended performance/dollar PSU you can get. WintersFury Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 I'd say go with the faster memory, you must be getting an opty to OC so having faster memory lets you get more OC at 1:1. I always run my mem at stock settings for it, dunno why but I do. Though going from DDR400 to 500 won't give a huge bandwith difference so using dividers to keep the mem at 400 would work just as well. As for 4 gigs, it's completely un-needed. You'll rarely if ever max out 2 gigs and it's a big chunk of change you could use for something else like another graphics card or proc with a higher multi. Also having more sticks of ram makes ram OCing harder so you won't be able to go as far at 1:1 if you want to OC the ram beyond stock settings. davidhammock200 Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 RAM: 2X 1GB, you can't OC very well with 4-sticks & must run 2T timing. OCZ PowerStream 520W or GXS 600W, both are very good, the 520W has adjustable rails & a 5yr warranty, the GXS is set up for SLI/Crossfire, however it will be fine with a single GPU & has a 3yr warranty.
