Nuclear Posted October 10, 2003 Posted October 10, 2003 Where is the proper place to put a temp probe to monitor cpu temps? I got my Digi Doc 5, but I don't know where would be best to place to the probe.
AYoKoNA Posted October 10, 2003 Posted October 10, 2003 SEARCH...SEARCH...and do a little more searching. Digital doc 5 on google 6th HIT http://www.overclockercafe.com/Reviews/oth..._5/DD5_pg2.html
Nuclear Posted October 10, 2003 Posted October 10, 2003 right, I found that, but I'm on a P4 so it doesn't quite apply. All the info I'm finding is mounting them to a AMD, which really doesn't help me too much. Thanks for trying though
bishop245 Posted October 10, 2003 Posted October 10, 2003 if it has small wires put it under the cpu as in tape it to the bottom side
Nuclear Posted October 10, 2003 Posted October 10, 2003 Gotcha, I'll try that. thanks
AYoKoNA Posted October 10, 2003 Posted October 10, 2003 or just put it on top of the large silver metal heat spreader that goes over the p4 cpu.
Nuclear Posted October 10, 2003 Posted October 10, 2003 I thought about that, but wouldn't the readings be wrong since it's actually touching the Heatsink also? And that slight gap wouldn't cause problems?
General Marshall Posted October 10, 2003 Posted October 10, 2003 You're darned tootin' that small gap will cause a problem!!! Let there be nothing between your CPU and HS - except Ceramique! How about the bottom of the HS right next to the CPU?
kobalt Posted October 10, 2003 Posted October 10, 2003 I would think you have some kind of adjustment on that digi. get it as close(but not between the cpu HS) as possible to the cpu and adjust the temp reading with your bios reading (as long as they're accurate)
Nuclear Posted October 10, 2003 Posted October 10, 2003 I ended up putting it against the side of the P4 Heat Spreader, it was a bit tricky and required some modding of the probe, it works great though. It usually reads about 4-6 degrees cooler than my Abit board, so I cut it in half and take that. Thanks for the help.
