nForce4 AMD/Intel X16 v6.85

Recommended Posts

No. It's meant for the new nForce based intel systems.

They just have better support for the (dual) x16 SLI configs than the older drivers.

They are the current version for all NF4 Boards even the ones the Dual x8 sli.

The 6.70 drivers are the last release which does not include the specific support for the x16 boards.

All the drivers in 6.85(3) are perfect compaitible with the x8 sli boards. Infact on one of my systems the 6.82 version was the first version capable of running the board stable.

Whether or not they will work better for you depends on your system configuration.

I currently have them running on my system and haven't noticed any performance increases. Stability has never been an issue.

Try them out. You won't know if they will work better for you until you try them.

Related question - is using Driver Cleaner necessary for chipset drivers? I always use it for video driver updates but wondering if it is advised to use it when updating chipset drivers.
iv never used it every with nvidia drivers for anything .. allways has worked fine

You only need Driver Cleaner Pro if you're having problems.

The nVidia driver installer does a good job of cleaning up after its self.

The nForce4 AMD/Intel X16 driver set for XP is...

Audio driver version 4.62 (WHQL)

Audio utility version 4.51

Ethernet NRM driver version 50.11 (WHQL)

SMBus driver 4.45 (WHQL)

Network management tools version 50.11

SMBus driver version 4.5 (WHQL)

Installer version 4.89

IDE SATARAID driver version 5.52 (WHQL)

IDE SATA_IDE driver version 5.52 (WHQL)

RAIDTOOL application version 5.52

While the nForce4 AMD driver set for XP is...

Audio driver version 4.62 (WHQL)

Audio utility version 4.51

Ethernet NRM driver version 4.82 (WHQL)

Network management tools version 4.88

SMBus driver version 4.50 (WHQL)

Installer version 4.93

Legacy PATA RAID driver version 5.52

SATA RAID driver version 5.52 (WHQL)

IDE driver version 5.52 (WHQL)

RAIDTOOL application version 5.52

So there are some significant differences between them.
