b00urns Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 My best overclockings so far are all done on a 20-pin Zalman 400B with an adapter. You could also solder instead of using a plug connector, that should do it. I'm going to start putting my PSU on Craig's list and if I can sell it. If successful, I'll just buy a new PSU, otherwise, I'll keep my fingers crossed and use the adapter. As for Soldering, i'm too much of a n00b for that kinda thing. davidhammock200 Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 Folks, the cost of a "Zero Loss" gold plated 20 to 24 adaptor is over $40 & no other type of connector is adaquate, even if you starting off with an 20-pin PC P&C 510. Just sell your current PSU on EBay & get one that meets the DFI specs, I would also suggest that it meets the EPS specs & has the 8-pin EPS connector, because the next generation of hifg performance mobos will require that as well. AFAIK all "A" list SLI PSU's are EPS rated & include the 8-pin EPS connector, however the "A" list non-SLI PSU's may not. Reinvented Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 A good rock solid PSU that's a native 24 pin psu is the Tagan 480-U22. And it's not too expensive either. My 2 cents.

Wouldn't a similar problem arise with modular PSUs with the 6pin pcie connectors? and/or 4pin-6pin pcie adapters?
Richdog Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 I can't believe I have the same problem... in my haste to get all my parts I didn't consider the PSU situation. Now im stuck with a 20-pin PSU that is powerful yet outdated i'm and really not sure whether I should plug it in or not (leaning towards not). My current PSU is so nice that it's a shame... GlobalWIN SAF520. *sigh* looks like i'll get the OCZ Powerstream or something... so gutted... I wanted to get it all running today. Is it really bad to just use the 20-pin without an adapter then? Neoforcer Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 Yes it is bad a 20 pin PSU will under volt the motherboard. If you are able to wait then doing so is a good idea.
