Qw3r7y Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 So basically if i want high frequencies and high clock these may not be the best option? The only problem being that I'd much rather be running at least 2gb yet all the top end 2x1gb dual pairs only come in your aforementioned PC4000! I know you can get much better results out of good 2x512 4600/4800 & even 5000, but want the 2gb's. I'm assuming that I'll be down to 2T if I slip in 4x512 though! Not solving my performance issues at all..... What to do.... What to do?!?! Just want some quick, RELIABLE, clockable sticks! Ho-hum! Sharp Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 How far do you want to OC? 250Mhz for a 2x1GB kit is very good, some of the Samsung UCCC ones will reach 275Mhz.
Qw3r7y Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 That's part of the problem... I don't know where I'll be at!?! Rig isn't assembled yet - is awaiting phase change cooler and RAM! Can't even have a tentative look at it yet as all the other RAM I have at home is DDR2! Have read some wild posts from people phase cooling on similar set up and many have breeched the 275mhz barrier with these set ups! Hence my trepidation at getting the 250mhz and hoping to push them in these kinds of areas... Especially after Martin's performance/heat issue that was brought up. Don't just want a mad cpuz shot for bragging rights - want something that will be practical and stable in everyday use as well. Sharp Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 Using a divider will help and wont cripple your performance. OC CPU to 275Mhz, set FSB:DRAM ratio to 9/10 = 250Mhz MEM.

Not solving my performance issues at all..... What to do.... What to do?!?! Just want some quick, RELIABLE, clockable sticks! Ho-hum! First of all, you mean "low timings and high clocks"? What I said about the CE-6 sticks doesn't mean thereis anything better out there. With 2x 1 GB sticks you cannot be sure you will reach high frequencies and low timings. If you want that you need to buy 4x 512 MB Geil One. Be sure to allocate a lot of evenings to tuning them. Or 4x 512 TCCD which will give you high clocks. You realize that all this memory fiddling doesn't give you any more real-world performance?
EZ target Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 A PC4000 2x1GB kit will be better for games +a bit of overclocking, all the new games need a lot of memory. For $40 more you can get the G.SKILL PC4000 2x1GB kit. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16820231021 vs GEIL one TCCD @newegg. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16820144341 SHarp. thank you kindly for your input. Unfortunately, new egg doesn't ship to Canada. Alot of US stores don't ship to Canada, and also they don't carry G.SKILL PC4000 2x1GB kit. Any other suggestions? thanks. Qw3r7y Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 I meant high frequency and high clocks - High frequency being the FSB equivalent (don't know what it's called) for the 64bit architecture. i.e. 275mhz+ though quite a few people have creeped judt over the 300mhz mark.... I realise that it's not real world performance but I want it to be usable at high clocks for eveyday things... My current rig lets me bench prime95, Pi, 3dmark etc... But at those supposedly stable settings my PWM4 (pulse wave modulator #4) starts to cook itself after 15/20mins gaming. Don't want the same issues with the new rig... Sharp Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 EZ target I'll be ordering them at NCIX since I live in Canada, but I will order the video card and memory at New Egg.That is why I linked to newegg. $326 Mushkin XP4000 2X1GB 3-4-3-8 http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku...facture=MUSHKIN gplracer So you are going for a (PC4000) 2x1GB kit? Sharp Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 Its to new. I need to see some users to test it first then I can say if it will work or not. I believe it will be ok, all the recent G.skill kits seem to be very good.
