caj Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 I am sure the "OCZ" Gold GX will be good a start..thanks for the link. But I am really anxious to read more about about the "Team Group" set which uses the Micron chip. If anyone has stumbled across any links or reviews for those I would appreciate it. Team Group "Extreme Cronus" Series If I understand what I am reading from Post #1 (thanks Sharp), this is a similar chip to what the Crucial Ballistix were using. If they come without the problems that were cited by some of the Ballistix users, they should be interesting.....assuming they work on the DFI NF4's. From the Madshrimps review: PC4000 TXDR2048M500HC3DC 3-3-3-8 Micron based + High Overclock + Good timings above 250Mhz + Runs stable 275Mhz with <2.8v vDIMM - Some Micron based modules run tighter timings at PC3200 - Incompatible with Shuttle SK83 Team Extreme Product Page: http://www.teamgroup.com.tw/overclocking/ddr-500-mhz-dc.html Review for these: http://www.madshrimps.be/?action=getarticl...590&articID=397 Thanks,
caebron Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 At this point I'm more concerned about running tight timings than higher OC - simply cuz my CPU maxes out at 240 (x11) anyway so I don't need anything above PC3500 really. I'm still not sure whether to get, like say, PC4000 and then tighten the timings since I'd be running it below specs or if I should go for PC3200 and hope foe a good OC - like I managed with my Corsairs. At the same time I'm not wholly convinced it's not my current RAM (see sig) that's holding me back rather than my CPU.

cd520 Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 Sharp, I saw these G.Skill 1Gx2 BNS's on the OK list but cant find any posts with anyone using them. I saw them mentioned once back on page 17. Any input on those? How did they make the list?
Sharp Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 Pakapak, The HZ version is the better one but the light Blue ZX kit under it may overclock more with lower timings. cd520, G.skill have used these on the DFI board and they worked fine so I put it on the list. The reason you don't see many people with them is because for the price/a bit more, you can get the other G.Skill kits which are better. Redbeaver Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 Sharp, how bout these 2: http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merchant2/m...tegory_Code=OCZ OCZ Gold XTC $210 (after $25 MIR) vs http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merchant2/m...tegory_Code=OCZ OCZ Gold $190 (after $25 MIR) ?? System in my sig. im not planning to overclock to 1:1 ratio, but the next divider will give me 257Mhz. So i dont think 7Mhz is too much to ask isnt it? So i just wanna get the best timings on those. Lotsa people likes the normal Gold, but since the XTC pretty new, not much review yet. Is the XTC overrated? is it worth the $20 difference? XTC's timing is a tiny bit better i guess..... 3-4-3-8 instead of 3-4-4-8. thx, buddy!
Sharp Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 Both are almost the same, for $20 more why not go for it

As for mobo and case recommendation - this really is the wrong thread for this kinda question, but since you asked it along with your memory question - how would you rate your PC experience on a scale from 1 - 10 (1=total noob, 10=degree in computer engineering)? As for a case, read some reviews! Antec, Thermaltake, Lian Li, Coolermaster are all high quality. Make sure you get a case where the inside provides easy access for fan and drive installation. Personally I would recommend the Antec P180 - if you order it from the www.performance-pcs.com website you can get it premodded with a side window installed.
