  1. IMHO I think if you get at least 2 black lights and keep everything the same color and it will look very nice. I don't like when all the parts are different colors.
  2. Depending on what your finances will allow, I think 2 lights is preferable. One to light up beneath the cards and the other to light up above or in back. Look through a case gallery (like the one here at OCC) and take note of the lighting in the cases. You can usually tell if a case has only one light.
  3. Ah, I'm sorry about that guys. I thought there was a limit to digging up old threads.
  4. Happy birthday man! Being able to drive is really nice when you wanna run to the store to pick up modding supplies!
  5. I just did a search and it looks like its been a couple months since you've had one of thesethreads. So, lets start it up again. If you guys are anything like me, you change desktops every couple of weeks anyway. Here is my desktop: Here is your chance to show off, lets see those desktops!
  6. any company that charges by the ammount of bandwidth I use will lose a customer as far as I am concerned. I'd find some free dialup isp just to boycott the company.
  7. I have. Today I was doing some organizing in my case and I unhooked the power cord of the processor fan. About 1/2 hour later I hooked everything back up, put the side panel on the case again, and turned it on. I was sitting there for about 10 seconds when my friend spoke up and told me my HSF was not on. Well... I bet you've never seen anyone move as fast as I did to turn the computer off. I wasn't too worried afterward, because at least I had passive cooling for those ten seconds, but it was still pretty freaking scary at first. I now have a new found respect for people who lose their processors forgetting to turn on the water pump of their h2o systems. If it werent for my overly observant friend... meh. (I've been running some quick benchmarks. Luckily nothing appears to be fried. )
  8. I just feel that if his case temps are something extreme like 45-50C it could help to explain why his processor temps are so high. If this guy doesn't want to void his warranty we might as well give him some other options as well.
  9. I like newegg.com. They have great prices on a large range of items and they have good service. Things I order from them come in the mail quickly and well-packaged.
  10. Do you have any spare parts laying around you can swap in? I would tend to say you have a dead mobo, because of the complete lack of beeps.
  11. A lot of things can make your temps higher, not just the hsf. Is the area where you live particularly warm? What is the ambient temp like? Before voiding any warranties (since you don't seem inclined to do that) I would round your cables and install some more/better case fans. Also, can you tell us what your case temperature is at? If it is high as well, it might help us diagnose the problem.
  12. Yea, I have actually made one, it works well. Here is the link you are looking for I believe: http://projects.pointofnoreturn.org/ledmeter/
  13. It is a very nice cpu cooler: http://www.digital-daily.com/cooling/zalman-7000/
  14. Where did you get the impression my power supply fan was blowing in? My power supply has two fans (like most) that lead in a path to the outside. Also, I am not satisfied with my temps, because I am looking to overclock my chip soon. I think I will move some fans around according to what you guys have said. Oh, and yes.. I do have lotsa time on my hands.
  15. I was bored, so I just created a diagram of the way my fans are setup. I have intake fans on both windows of my case (one above and one on the side). And I have an exhaust ran right below the exhaust fan on the power supply. I also have a fan that intakes air right below the video card. Currently, my cpu temps are anywhere between 35 at night when it is cold and 50 degrees on a hot summer day. And my motherboard temps are anywhere between 30 and 42. Keep in mind my computer is always under full load due to Folding@home. Anyway, can you take a look at this setup and tell me if I should be doing anything different? I have already done alot to keep it cool. I have lapped the heatsink, I have rounded cables, and I keep as much as possible out of the way of airflow. Also, I am already using arctic silver 3 thermal paste. Computer Specs: Amd athlon xp 2000+ Soyo kt333 mobo WD 100 gb hard drive 2x128mb sticks of pc2100 memory Thermaltake volcano 9 cooler <-- (should I replace this?) geforce 4 mx 440 <-- (I'm currently trying to find a good price on a Sapphire 9500, if I am lucky I may be able to soft-mod it)
