Sorry, but as it's impossible to buy or transfer a legitimate copy of windows xp it would be breaking site rules to offer any information referring to building a pc using said windows xp.This would have to include a pitated os which is against site rules.

Ok, so it's apparently set in stone that you'll be using Win XP (IMHO not a good choice, but that's beside the point). As for a current system build, after checking a couple mobo sites (Gigabyte & MSI) looking at the latest AMD socket FM2+ boards. They both still have Drivers available for download. I wouldn't hazard a guess as to how much longer said drivers will be availkable though since Win XP has reached EOL.

With that said, I'd suggest the following.....

   AMD A10-7850K

   MSI A88XM Gaming motherboard

   8GB Patriot ram 2400MHZ

MSI Radeon R7 250 OC Edition GPU

I would just use onboard video as the FM2 video isn't bad and fairly powerful and even plays 4k video if you need to .

I also would just go with the cheapest 4gb kit you can find since it's xp 32bit (I'm guesing and 64 xp. barely work / has supprt ).

Shopping at Microcenter you can pick up this CPU and Board combo

A10-7850K  Gigabyte F2-A55m-HD2 for $149  http://www.microcenter.com/site/products/amd_bundles.aspx

A 4GB set of G.Skill 1600Mhz Cas 9 memory for $47 at  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231319   Using more than 4GB will be wasted on an XP system

Skip the video card and use the on board and use the heatsink included with the chip.

I am guessing you are reusing the power supply, case and  drives but a caution would be to make sure the power supply is ATX compliant with later designs

If so then this leaves you room for a couple of SATA drives

A bulk CD/DVD burner will run you $17 to $19 and a nice 500GB HDD for $55  Source Newegg

If you need the powersupply you pick up a decent one for $60  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151074

Worst case scenario you are looking at $340 bucks for this system.

@hbc, I was thinking on board fm2 as well but not sure what the lowest most effect apu would be, probably the 5400k?
