nice_shoes Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 My iphone 5 is the only Apple product that I own, so I feel like a novice with their product. I'd like some suggestions about getting a gps app for driving. I want: voice directions to help while driving good resolution so that it can "see" when I make a turn, etc. latest, up-to-date maps free I am currently using Google Maps and it is pretty good, except for the following: it sometimes seems that it can't locate me making a turn in urban areas and sub-divisions, but does fine on the highway as a result, it sometimes seems to get confused and stop giving voice instructions, kind of gets lost for a while also, if I deviate from the route that it had selected, it usually does a "re-routing" routine, but does NOT give a voice indication that it is doing a re-route (whereas my Garmin gps will announce "recalculating" when it performs a re-route) Are there any good free alternatives to Google Maps? or is it the best? ir_cow Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 I just use whatevery is built in. Owning both an iPhone and galaxy, the gps works better on the iphone. I'm always 1-2 blocks off with my galaxy but the sigal is way better on the galaxy. If you want all the minor side streets it's best to buy a dedicated gps like a TomTom and set it up for your state only. Works way better than any phone. IVIYTH0S Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 wuze is the best navigation app He means Waze, which is great because it's user supported. Meaning speed traps and live traffic updates can be added by users, as well as other annoyances/obstructions. I personally just stick with Google Maps/Navigation though, but my dad swears by Waze so I'm bound to try it eventually. (I tried when it was super new and it was pretty basic but I'm sure it's come a LONG way)
