What res where you running the 5970 at?

1920x1200, Skyrim with a few mods slapped it around like nothing and I KNOW it had the raw performance to handle the game. I think this was why the 5970 (1GB vs 1.5GB) wasn't always that much faster than the 580 (CF scaling aside)

eBay, I never buy stuff new

GTX590 should definitely be better than 2x GTX670s.

Sarcasm? A 7950 is better than the 580 in raw performance (not counting it's double quantity of memory) but then the 670 performs a little better than the 7950 in most things (when memory isn't maxed)...and the 590 is slower than two 580s so I can't see how the 590 would in anyway beat the two 670s (other than single slot/less complex setup)

2x GTX 670 will run me around $800-900

1x 590 and 1x 580 will be around $600-700

2x 580 will be around $500-650

Also I only have 2 PCI slots, So I need one card with plenty of power another for SLI and/or running an additional 1-2 monitors separately. The 590 and 580 combo seems to be the best bang for the buck.

I can't see any justification why you wouldn't get the 7950s though... they would compete and defeat most if not all of the other proposed setups for cheaper and are new.

2x 7950s would cost $560 (or $580 without rebate on the one)

2x 670s (4GB because why even bother with the spending extra for a 600 series and then have it's potential capped by 2GB) $880

I guarantee you'd not see any difference between each setup performance wise....but you WILL notice the $300 difference... (and if you won't, PUHLEASE send me $300 just because)

^ Yes. The first word. You got it.

Again,Black64 2x http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202030 would best best in terms of price-performance ratio. Practically, one GTX660 costs ~$450, when you can get 2x HD750 for just $130 more.

Practically, there should not be any choice related problem, if you are open between nvidia & AMD.

  • 4 weeks later...

Just an update, I've decided to get a 7970, but I will wait until the 7xx series is released for a price drop. Should be a week or 2 until then.

You won't regret it , I love my 7950

Yeah, that's a good plan. Price drop would be around the corner..

Also D6BMG, from your previous post I've decided on the 7970 for 2 reasons, I can get one right now for about the same price as a 670(used of course) and I want to finally use all 3 of monitors to game at 3240x1200, so the 3GB VRAM would come in handy.

I think if you're gonna fold at all, which wasn't mentioned, then stick with the gtx 5xx series for the most ppd...
