ccokeman Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 If you have 4.5Ghz at those temps you have a better than average CPU.
ir_cow Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 Agreed. 75c @ 4.5ghz is good.

insan3 Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 put the rig outside its -7c or 19F, lets see what this 4790k can do it idles around around 0c (32F).
ir_cow Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 i hope i can 5ghz Yeah.... that's not going to happen. If you get 4.8ghz I would be super happy with it.

Unless he's lucky and has a good CPU...there ARE a few of them out there in the wild after all. One big thing that can sometimes help with Haswell stability & heat is to try manually setting the voltage. Auto on most setups will end up overvolting due to the on chip voltage regulation taking over and being too harsh. (My 4770K tries to go nearly 0.2v over where it needs to be if I set auto @ 4.3 under load for example). It's worth trying anyway, who knows you MIGHT get 5Ghz out of it with enough patience and tweaking. As for temps I don't mind hovering near the 100C throttle point for a quick benchmark, but 24/7 stable I want to be 80C or less with haswell parts. In theory you can let it peg off 100C all day long and it'll be fine, but the lower the temps the happier it'll be long term.
insan3 Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Just an update, after i hit 4.7 i haven't really played with it much more. it hits 70C @100% @ 1.2v
ir_cow Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 if that chip is 100% stable at 1.2v than you have one of the best chips from any batch. 1.2v is unheard of @ 4.7ghz. congratz
