jammin Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 Well, I have been itching to play around with this E8400 since I first got it. But I didn't want to start the process on stock cooling as that would just be frustrating. So today I picked up a Scythe Ninja (Cheers Silverfox!) and can now start to have a bit of fun with it. With all the talk of E8400 degredation floating about, I'll be treading very carefully. I'm setting myself a CPU voltage limit of 1.35v for now. Anyway, first a couple of shots of the setup to give you something to look at: The whole thing is in an Antec Solo, 1x92mm Intake and 1x120mm exhaust. The stock cooling on these 45nm chips really is puny. Much better. It's pretty snug, but fits well. Small amount of overclocking so far. Starting it out at 3.6GHz as it seemed the logical step with DDR2 800 CPU settings: 3.6GHz @ 1.26v No alterations to NB or HT voltages yet. RAM is 4-4-4-12 @ 1.95v (GeiL Orange) Prime blend testing at 45mins ran so far. jammin Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 Could get a SATA optical drive, but the IDE is fine for the moment, and probably even neater cabling wise. I had to take my E8400 to 1.41 to get it to 4.4Ghz stable I don't plan on taking the voltage that high until there are more reliable results that it is perfectly safe to do so. Prime is still humming along without any problems at 3.6GHz @ 1.26v, so hopefully I won't need too much to get to 4GHz anyway. 4GHz is where I would be very happy to get to for something 24/7 stable. mattwalter85 Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 30M OCCT AND 32M SUPERPI...i will post screenshots after i get home....i dont think having to run a processor for 12+ hours to test stability is always necessary because when just using your pc normally or even gaming you will never use 100% of the processor's resources especialy not for 12 hours straight.....
