MadMan Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 I have been so used to Windows XP for so long now I have forgot the command for MSConfig in Windows 2000. I am doing this on my friends comp (really old but still does what he needs) because it starts up slow and he wants to turn off all the extra programs that start up and cause a slow start up. So if someone could let me know the run command for this in windows 2000 that would be great. Thanks
ir_cow Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 i thought it worked in 2000, so i duno. try non caps
Nerm Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Use Hijack This. Win 2000 doesn't have that feature built-in.
KILLER_K Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 There is a real simple way. Take a jump drive and copy the "msconfig" off a windows xp machine and place it on the Windows 2000 machine. And then you can then use msconfig. Good Day

KILLER_K Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 You are very welcome. Most of us look at the simple stuff last, funny how it always works out that way. Good Day
oblivescence Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 I always used the advanced options in spybot s&d, there is something in there about startup programs. I have also used autoruns, which works well.
MadMan Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 (edited) Wow...that's a extremly easy way to go about it. Awesome! Thanks! Hrm...odd thing tho...that site says get it from c:\windows\system and it wasn't there so I did a search and on both of my comps with XP installed it has it in the folder C:\WINDOWS\pchealth\helpctr\binaries so if you can't find it under the system folder try this.
