suchuwato Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 I bought a DEM16217 a long time ago to hook up to a parallel port, but never got round to it. It's got the KS0070B controller. Anyone know of anything I can get so it can interface with USB or something? Any links to guides would be cool

Andrewr05 Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 This what you were looking for ? NOPE You will probably end up making your own circuit with a USB controller chip in order to connect it, unless of course you find an obscure driver that somehow syncs through USB-Serial and allows you to use it... suchuwato Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 ^ Thats what I was worried about... I want to find something pre-made or at least a diagram for something simple
hardnrg Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 the original circuit diagrams for interfacing are parallel... http://www.datasheets.org.uk/search.php?q=...&sType=part you'd have to essentially present a serial stream in parallel blocks... the good news is that you are just bolting two circuits together usb to parallel the parallel interface it's probably quite cheap to make yourself or maybe you could find a well cheap usb-parallel cable on ebay and hack it up
suchuwato Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 yeah, i'll have a look.
suchuwato Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 http://www.pic-tools.com/usb_mod_ump2.htm That looks cool... dunno if I could figure out how to use it though
hardnrg Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 $26 is quite a lot... I'm sure you could get a ready made USB-Parallel cable for less... then you'd just have to solder a parallel port on the display...

markiemrboo Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 You would need to be careful with those 'USB -> Printer cable' things, as software for driving an LCD display will need [more?] direct access to the port. I'm not sure if any of those cables will allow that, so they are probably not an option. The only thing I can find is http://www.e.kth.se/~pontusf/index2.html but that is for an HD44780 compatible display.

I need to find somewhere that sells something like that pre-made. I'm not really felling up for making one.
