Best Agp Card?

Yes, yes, I know AGP is dead. Trust me, I would love to be able to afford an upgrade to a PCIE setup in the future, but for now - I am sticking with my current rig. Please do not bring up the fact that I can upgrade to a PCIE system... I already know this.

My question is, what is the best AGP card on the market today. Ive seen a few people recommend the Sapphire Radeon X1950 Pro AGP, is this the best one available?

I have only used nvidia cards in the past, whatever card I get will be replacing my 6800 ultra - that 6800 ultra will then slide into my wifes PC.....

How big of a performance increase can I expect to see going from a 6800 ultra 256mb to a X1950 512mb (or another card). Again, I realize AGP is dead - but this will be my final upgrade for this system - in the future I will build a new setup and this system will become my wifes - so even if its old, it needs to run good.

Thanks for any help.

the new X1950 Pro just came out, it is the fastest AGP card, though i dunno how they can run that much juice through the AGP Bus.

Besides putting that money towards another rig, would you say upgrading to the X1950 Pro over the current 6800 ultra is worth it?

yes and no, buy that sucker, and come time to upgrade, you'll have to throw it away. But yes.... it will beat that 6800 pretty bad

@uber, shouldn't be that much of a difference, we haven't even breached the 8x barrier yet... AGP=8x one way, PCI-E 16x=8x up and down

Thanks - I think I will get it. When I "end of life" the computer - it will be passed over to my wife to game on, and then I will build a new system from scratch - so I consider this its final upgrade. So Im really not throwing away money, "Im spending it on her" right? ;)

without the www @ Uber :P

anyways, check the price on the 7800GS, its the next best card, as I think the x1950pro is WAY overpriced for the kind of performance it delivers (the AGP variant that is)

works either way noobstick :)

i added the www so it would be a link :)

you also have to add http:// so it should look like this http://www.froogle.google.com (im just typing so i dont know if the link will work or if the url really is w/o the www)

as for the x1950 cards, very good agp cards but the 512mb version seems very good since price wise and when it comes to availability easily beats that bliss 7800gs+ but looks like a even performer though. and hmm, well if your wife likes to game then yea it should work, or just say you can get nice quality from movies on it hehe.
