My Key Mod V2 Worklog

Recommended Posts

Yes, some of you remember my ghetto guide on how to make a power switch key to your comp using a box and an old vga cable. Now, i've got some better parts :D

Heres the things i'll be using:

Electric Switch key from an EZ Go Golf Cart (1/2")

Tools, pliers, vice grip, drill press, 1/2" bit

blood :P

As you can already see, i used the CD drive cover, and drilled the 1/2" hole. Next step was to install the key itself.

I ran into a problem trying to tight the thing down... but nothing my trusty needle nosed pliers couldn't handle :P

Finished:

Now i have to see if i can solder these to my case without breaking

*More to come

Hehe thanks Guys :)

Now the moment you've all been waiting for, the wiring and the finished product :D

Prying the front panel off, i only had about 3" of wire to work with.... because i was to lazy to try and unplug it from the mobo

So i went ahead and wired it to the removable connectors. No problems so far

Although, while trying to strip the wires from the power button.... the stupid sharp edges of the case got me :( More blood FTW :P

in the end, i won out. As you can see, i just wrapped it in and around the front panel to the drive bays.

HOORAY it works :D:D Now no one can get into my case AND turn it on :P

That's awesome! :D

What case do you have?

This particular one is an Apevia X-Pleasure (a Chemning variant)

this can be done to most everything. You can find one of these in an old goccart, motor bike, scooter, anything electrical that requires a key :) (in my case, a golf cart :P )

  • 2 weeks later...

!!

I done this very mod to my last PC (MESSY!) and with the help of one of my house mate engineering students managed to do it on my current case. Much cleaner job the second time round :)

Heres some piccies of how I done it:
