romeo55 Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 Well i had a P4 Socket 478 Northwood 3.2 which i tried removing the IHS on a couple hours ago... Everything went well but when i pried off the core the IHS had half the core still on it... Turns out the P4 core is pretty much attached to the IHS... F00k.... I have no funds to replace it.... F000k.... The chip was a 30 cap SLW6G... F000... FYI... some northwood's IHSs are attached by some sort of glue... Share this post Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

tazwegion Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 (edited) I heard placing the processor in a freezer (in a sealed bag naturally) helped to make the adhesive brittle & easier to remove (haven't tried it though)... doesn't help you out though dude... sorry for your loss I guess it's important to remember... only 'mod' what you can afford to lose <_< That's why I experiment with Retro gear... BTW: my point beingthat even though it was a northwood it still had the same kind of adhesive... I don't really set out to risk breaking my hardware to overclock a little more. Obviously, I enjoy OC'ing and tweaking cos I joined this site, but I'm not gonna seriously dismantle my hardware to OC some more. Anyway, sorry to flame you. My mood hasn't been the best today.
