X2 3800+ /// 4000+ L2 Caches

Anyone have any information regarding the difference of the respective 512kb to 1MB L2 Caches of these 2 CPUs concerning gaming applications?

 

I am under the impression that the 1MB L2 Cache on the 4000+ really doesn't do much more than the 512KB L2 Cache on the X2 3800+.

 

If this is the case, then I will gladly trade 200Mhz for another core

(Well, ok I suppose technically it's 400Mhz, as the 4000+ is @ 2.4 Ghz where the X2 3800+ is @ 2.0 Ghz.)

Umm... very few games use SMP...

 

But the L2 cache won't make much of a difference.

extra 512kb is like a 200mhz boost.

 

i noticed my stock 3700+ (2.4ghz) 1mb L2 is faster than my 3000+ o/c (2.4ghz) 512kb L2. and you would think at the same speed the Oced one would out perform stock of another. nope that extra 512kb is a big boost at a higher clock

keep in mind 754 dont use DC whereas 939 does. so the lack of dc will make the 1mb cache boost visible.

The L2 cache really doesn't make a difference in games. But there is a differances between the 3800+ x2 and the 4000+.

I heard that the 512kb cache is enough to keep the CPU fed at pretty much all times so I dont think it makes much of a difference.

good to know swifty11212, good to know. next time i upgrade i'll wont be checking 1mb vs 512kb in price as much.

if its for gamming then get the 4000 other wise get the 3800 its great i love it.
